The novel Corona Crisis being the biggest global wealth equaliser factor since the world wars have impacted many events across the globe. As this “once in a century epidemic” that turned pandemic, it has been taking its course, a lot of public gatherings have been banned in different countries as preventive measures. Though there is an unending list of events that are affected by the Coronavirus, in this blog, we will be talking only about the 8 major events that have been impacted by COVID-19.
1. MWC 2020 Barcelona
Scheduled to be held between February 24 and February 27, 2020, got cancelled due to the COVID-19. Mobile World Conference (MWC) is organised by GSMA in Barcelona every year and is the largest mobile event that takes place in the world.
The conference brings together all the latest innovations which are introduced in the world every year. Over 2,500 leading tech-companies participate in this conference and discuss over the hot trending that is associated with the mobile industry.
Several leading Chinese mobile companies introduce new mobile models at this conference. This year, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it got cancelled.
2. Game Developers Conference (GDC)
This is an annual conference for all the tech-freaks who are a pro at developing different types of video games. It began in the year 1988. The GDC was to take place between 16 March-20 March this year in San Francisco. Due to the fear and concern about the COVID-19 outbreak, the conference got cancelled.
As a preventive measure, the GDC initiated to replace the entire face-to-face conference with a recorded version. Interestingly, the broadcast was played between 9 am and 5 pm on the same dates. However, this could not attract the same attention as last year which was around 29,000 people.
3. SXSW 2020
In the United States, the South by Southwest takes place every year around mid-march. It is an amalgamation of various events including a plethora of tech conferences, music festivals, etc. The event is always a big success since the time it had been started in the year 1987.
However, this year the COVID-19 impacted it adversely and it got cancelled. It was supposed to be held during 13 march and 22 march but with the news of the spread of Coronavirus, it got cancelled on 6th March, a week before the scheduled date.
4. Facebook F8 Developers Conference
Facebook organises this annual event for all those tech giants who get an exposure to flaunt their latest innovation and technologies. This year, it was scheduled to take place on 5th and 6th May in California. Just like the other events, even Facebook cancelled it due to the COVID-19.
Not just this, this is the second event cancelled by them. They previously also cancelled their March global marketing summit, the reason is same, the spread of the Coronavirus.
5. ICLR 2020
This is a conference where a lot of professionals participate who are concerned with the advancement of artificial learning. The international conference on learning representations (ICLR) fosters the progress of deep learning. Though the conference has been cancelled, a virtual conference for the same will be taking place on the 16th of April, this year.
6. Google I/O
Google holds this conference in Mountain View, California since the year 2008. as the name suggests, the “I/O” can be read in two ways: Input/Output or “Innovation in the Open”. During the conference, tech freaks get to witness a lot of new additions in the panel. It announces several new updates regarding hardware, software for existing as well as new services. This event was scheduled to take place in May this year, but it got cancelled.
7. CES Asia 2020
CES Asia is one of those names that is strongly helping innovation reflect in the technological devices within the Asian market. This event was to be held from 10 June to 12 June in Shanghai. The organizers of the event say that the event was such a success that it managed to attract a crowd of more than 42,000 people. Among this crowd were some eminent tech giants like Google, Huawei, Samsung etc.
Witnessing the COVID-19 situations, the organizers have decided to postpone the event.
8. Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)
Also known as E3, this event is a premier trade event that revolves around the video game companies around the world. Through this event, the world gets to know about several gaming consoles, new titles, etc that will be introduced.
Now that the event stands cancelled, it has been a great loss for the leading game developers such as Ubisoft, Microsoft, Nintendo etc and they are thinking for new methods to announce their products.
