Delay In Int’l Students’ Entry Spells Doom For The Australian Universities

Other than Australia, international students seek other country destinations for their academic pursuits in the ensuing year.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the country closed its borders to international citizens on March 20, last year.

Since then, Australian institutions have projected a loss of A$16 to A$19 billion due to a reduction in international student enrollment, 2023.

The university’s international student population fell by 210,000 compared to previous years, resulting in an income loss of AU$1.8 billion.

Last year, Australian universities suffered a 6% drop in revenue compared to 2019. International students contribute more than $40 billion to the Australian economy, and their numbers are declining.

According to the Australian Department of Education spokesperson, closing borders has been critical in reducing the spread but it also reflects on the significant decline in university students.

However, according to a poll conducted by the Council of International Student Australia, 93% of Australian students studying abroad have cited mental health concerns as a result of a lack of in-person instruction.

International students who applied this year continue to demonstrate in front of the several Australian embassies, emphasising their academic losses and concerns due to the 551-day wait already.
