Networked Systems Design

Introduction to Networked Systems Design

The paper discusses aspects and features about a networking topic developed in Cisco Tracer Packet (V7.2.1) consisting in routes , switches and laptops, spread in a WAN. It is not necessarily to be a WAN , but it might be a LAN. The switch has two states , binary ones : 0 or 1.

Network Design Summary

The basic network that is supposed to be presented contains the following elements:

  • PCP , LPC , SPC , L01 , L02 ;
  • The routers are presented too such as: Liv , PSW , Par , Cam1 , Cam2 ,Cam3 , SwT , SwM , SwB , ISP.
  • the protocols used are : PPPoE , HDLC , PPP and GRE Tunnel.

Logical Diagram

The logical diagram depends on Fa0/1 , Fa0/0 , S0/0/0 , S0/0/1 , Fa0/2 , Fa0/3 , Fa0/5.

Summary Addressing Tables

The tables of summary consists in address , type of address and owner .

Network Design Details

The following terms are pertinent to the basic diagram that is build in Cisco Packet Tracer (v7.2.1).

1.OSPF

The principle for this OSPF is the shortest path from First In to First Out. It is a method of optimization that requires that from source to sink to be followed up the shortest path.

2.VLAN 802.1q trunking

The notion stands for Virtual LAN 802.1q trunking that is a protocol of transmitting the information.

3.PPP & PPPoE

These are protocols of sharing information.

4.DHCP

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a method that assigns an IP to an user from the domain ( server ).

5.GRE

It is a set of protocols.

6.NAT & PAT

NAT stands for Network Address Translation , whereas PAT stands for Port Address Translation. It functions in the following manner: it transfers public addresses to private ones keeping port fixed.

7.DNS Lookup

It is a tool to look up DNS’s , or the set of domains.

8.HTTP

It is a protocol of communication between user-client and server-domain.

9.SSH

Secure Shell is a protocol to transmit encrypted information, encrypted data.

10.VTY Lines

It represents the CLI of a router.

11.MOTD Banner

It is a logo message that is displayed when it is necessary, in case of alerts.

12.dual stack device

It is related to two nodes that vary between IPv4 and IPv6.

13.scalability

It is a measure of information.

14.IPv4 & IPv6

These represent protocols of internet.

15.WAN

Wide Area Network is a network that extends over a large geographical area.

16.PPP ( CHAP )

It is a token of sign in into auth-server-domain.

Conclusion on Networked Systems Design

To sum up, the above notions are paramount to the configuration of a network that is constituted of routes , wires , switches and computers.
