Fashion, Gender and Identity

Dress can be considered as the distinguish clothing outfit that is worn by an individual. The clothing pattern can vary with different cultures as well as may vary with genders. It can be observed as the main factor that may bring about alterations in a person’s behavior. Fashion on the other hand is a system that can be helpful in defining and shaping the dressing sense of an individual. It is also considered as a specific trend, related to a specific culture, race or community as whole. It can be thus, also defined as a unique identity to segregate the person from the general crowd.

Fashion as a trend can bring about a revolution in any cultural environment. There are various clothing materials that can be used to draw unique styles and clothing trends. These attires can be driven by certain profession, certain liking and disliking as well as hour of the need (Leary, 2019). The clothing manner and fashion also describes an individual’s approach and perspective towards life. The ideology can also be directly reflected by the same in terms of being conservative or liberal in their thinking. This can also be seen directly associated with certain common cultural practices. Therefore, it can also be observed to have a direct impact on the person socially and politically.

A person wearing a formal suit can be concluded to have a well-educated background whereas, the person dress informally can be pretended to be causal going as well. So, it can be safe to comment that the sense of fashion may not only be associated with an individual’s likings, it can also alter with the perception of the onlooker. The primary judgement is mainly passed by the onlooker as per the dressing sense of the individual.

While the dressing system might primarily affect the thinking of the onlooker, it can also impact the person’s conduct, socialization as well their hostility (Pfeiler, 2017). Specific clothing style is usually associated with the certain classifications in the cultures. It might also reflect on division in the society as well the underlying stigma that is unspoken about.

The person who are self- conscious also tend to choose a specific clothing style. They are observed to use it as an option to hide their short-comings as perceived by them as well as the society (Ruggerone, 2017). These can be included of wearing protective covering to hide a scar or wearing loose clothing to adjust with the over-weight issues. However, the choice of dressing can also be associated with a person’s own personality traits as well.

Opting for any particularly dressing sense is usually culturally or socially driven (Crewe, 2017). They are also a valid source to gather certain information about an individual, which is although made on presumption but can be helpful in providing near about right information for the individual. It also directly impacts on one’s thought process as well. However, these presumptions can also be wrong as dressing is driven by an individual choice as well. Dressing style can therefore, provide an individualized identity.
