Introduction to The Impact of Online Social Networking

The Internet is something that is ruling in the world and is the most popular medium of communication and entertainment for the youth. After the conduction of numerous researches, it has been declared that the Internet, specifically the use of social media, has put the precise effects, and the increasing consumption of media through the Internet is a hot topic of this time. Further, the results of the Internet will be critically analyzed and will assess how the Internet is the main reason behind the gap between youth and social life. Children have been turning antisocial by the consumption of the Internet, and this not a good sign critically. Being antisocial is mainly a term that is used to define a person who does not want to go out or socialize publicly (Kim, 2017). Such people are reported to be disclosing their feelings and opinions quite rudely to others. A lot of advantages and disadvantages are being studied by the researchers in the past few years which persuaded the belief over both the benefits and harms of the Internet and social media.

Body of The Impact of Online Social Networking

Now, this has to be understood that social media and its use can have a lot of effects, let them be long-term or short-term effects on the youth. The youth is busy in using the social media application widely without even analyzing their harmful effects on their personalities. A child has a lot of tasks to do as they have a lot to achieve in their adulthood. The new ideas emerge in this age, and they can make or break themselves by taking the decision. But on the other hand, social media have been affecting the youth by distracting them from their dreams, studies and even disturb their sleep to a high extent. The pressure among peers is increasing, and the expectation is getting more unrealistic by the time. A lot of adults face bullying through social media; rumours are spread, which may destroy someone's life at a first go (Cabrera, Harrera, Rubalcava & Martinez, 2017). Some issues that take place as a result of overuse of social media are, the increase in sexual activities, cyberbullying, the increasing level of aggressiveness in the young generations.

Issue 1

Youth have been facing a lot of things due to increasing sexual desires as they grow, and with the technological development which supports these needs are high in use. The need for intimacy in youth and not revealing their social identity is the last desire they show while supporting their sexual needs electronically. The child prefers to talk about sex on the Internet rather than having a discussion with peers in school and to their parents. Romantic relationships are forged through sexting, as some researches have also proved that sex talks through the Internet have no connection with sexual risk behaviour or psychological well-being (O'Sullivan, 2014). According to the pieces of evidence that show that most of the adults tend to pursue their sexual needs through the Internet rather than watching porn. Moreover, this is creating a massive problem for such adults as they tend to face a lot of sexual and relationship issues in real life. The increase in these issues does not stop them involving in sexual activities electronically, and they get more involved in porn ( Levin, Lillis, & Hayes, 2012)

Issue 2

Bullying can be done in a physical form, verbally and through facial expressions. The Internet has been playing a significant role in the promotion of cyberbullying, which is present in a lot of ways. A large number of individuals from youth get bullied through social media, where there were a lot of steps taken against it in the last two to three decades. The level of victimization has decreased because people have learned how to fix bullying through the Internet. The statistics show that chronic bullying was reported to be done among 4% to 14% of girls and 4% to 18% of boys. These individuals who face all this belonged to the age group between 11 to 16 years (Arnarsson, Nygren, & Nyholm, 2020). This shows how the youth is suffering through the use of social media and is not even able to save themselves by getting bullied publicly or privately on the Internet. Another evidence from the report published in 2010 shows that almost 6% of children reported getting bullied online; 3% said that they faced bullying through cell phones in the form of unknown calls, texts, images and video calls.

Issue 3

With the extensive use of social media, the youth is becoming more aggressive. As a result, they don't want to meet people in person and show extreme antisocial behaviour. Social media and it's going on content makes one so aggressive that the adults show physical violation and rude thoughts. Moreover, some shreds of evidence have also shown that some form of social media platforms plays a role in increasing social behaviour for children who have not exceeded a specific age limit (Kim, 2017). It is also reported that the mental health of youth is also suffering a lot with the increasing use of the Internet. The overuse of the Internet is leading towards mental issues, including depression, anxiety, envy, jealousy, isolation, stress and even drug abuse.

Conclusion on The Impact of Online Social Networking

It is concluded that social networking is a lot more than social interaction these days, and people do not use social media to kill time only. It has been converting into a massive medium of communication with anyone you want and to have any entertainment. It is becoming a way of life, and youth want everyone to stay updated about every incident that happens to them. The privacy of people is diminished to a considerable level. Sexual harassment is increased as well as cyberbullying and the violence, which has made the youth aggressive and antisocial. Through the entire essay, an advantage can also be concluded that the child has discovered an excellent medium to connect anyone across the world and can participate in activities openly. Therefore, this interaction has opened the new vision of the world for the youth in recent times.
