Stuart Pritchard in his write up between Moving beyond Maslow and explanation of motivation talks mainly about the methods and theory of motivation for employees in an organization. It aims at detailing the developmental aspects of employees through motivational theories. He begins with the example of Carl Jung on the management of people through appropriate actions. It was through psychoanalysis that Jung studied the pattern of behavior defining the natural purpose of individuals. Maslow had individualized these findings of individual motivation that is defined as a mixed collection of individual identity and interaction with the world. Stuart states Maslow's hierarchy of needs and explains how it can be applied to business. He summarizes his theory of motivational practices He begins his article systematically transiting from Carl Jung's theory to Maslow's theory providing a systematic approach to the concept. He describes Mc. Gregor's theory of x and y summarizing them in consecutive sections. He considered both x and y theory to be useful in the management of people providing the importance of the theory of interaction.
This is followed by a summary of the Herzberg theory of motivation. He explains the themes of knowing more creativity, knowledge, effectiveness, individuality, and growth. According to him, social insights of motivation involves the combination of tasks, group interaction, and effective communication for achieving organizational growth. He gives several examples of writers who believed that social interaction is important for motivational purposes. Apart from this, he claimed that self-identity is very important to get motivated. The identity of the person in a group should be such that it stands out from the group and it can also encourage others to get motivated. In his paper, Stuart highlights how motivation can be induced and what are the characteristics that a motivated individual should have. He lays out several example theories in a simple language to relate to the theme of the paper.
The transit from one paragraph to the other goes in a smooth manner. He explains the aspects and importance of motivation and how motivation needs to be inculcated in an individual. This can be achieved through socialization and enhancement of self-identity. The knowledge of self is an important attribute to understand what makes a person get self-motivated for a purpose. According to him, the type of work to be done should also be understood to get motivated to accomplish the task. More the knowledge we gain more is the understanding of the tasks and confidence, as well as motivational level, is high. Stuart provides greater insight into the importance of motivation and which are the areas that one must focus on to gain motivation. The introduction of motivation provides readers the idea of the theme of the entire paper that the writer is trying to convey to all the readers. The language used is easy to understand and the transition of one paragraph to the other is accomplished with a flow connecting one with the other.
