Introduction

Afghanistan has been constantly making efforts to maintain their relationships with the People's Republic of China and the Republic of India. Despite facing various opportunities and challenges, both the countries have been a constant companion of Afghanistan. These relations became much stronger after 2001 (Kavalski, 2018). The essay aims to highlight the contribution of China in the economic development of Afghanistan followed by the contribution of India in the democratic and cultural development of Afghanistan. Furthermore, the essay highlights the importance of Afghanistan as a market for the non-western emerging powers in the world. Economic Development Project of China for Afghanistan

It can be observed that after the 9/11 attacks, China tend to provide potential economic support to Afghanistan. The country announced to provide financial assistance of $3.5 million to Afghanistan and establish copper mines under the Metallurgical Cooperation of China. The initiative of China was taken with an intention to ensure the economic stability of Afghanistan (Khan, 2015). The investment in the copper mines project will also allow China to access the natural resources of Afghan and it will certainly ensure the political and economic stability of the country as well. At the same time, the Afghanistan government is also appreciating the support provided by China and is responding to this generosity with a positive attitude. Another project initiated by China was related to the increase in investment for Afghanistan by funding the investment through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). China placed a recommendation to provide funding of $57 billion through CPEC as a part of China's plan of Belt and Road which will be linking China to other countries like Asia, Europe and others (Clarke, 2016). This initiative also intends to start healthy conversations between Pakistan and Afghanistan and to extent CPEC with Afghanistan as well. The president of China and the president of Afghan agreed to develop the Chinese Silk Road Initiative that will be marked as a sign of peace, trade and regional transit (Ali, 2015). In this context, China made a huge financial investment of $330 million and the project shall provide proficient training to more than 3000 Afghans as well. Besides having sufficient financial resources to support Afghanistan, China intends to strengthen its collaborations and communication relationship with the country to address global and regional problems. 

Democratic and Cultural Projects of India for Afghanistan

The relationship between India and Afghanistan has been quite friendly and robust from a long tenure. Indians have been working on various construction projects in Afghanistan in order to build better relations with the country (Kaura, 2017). The high officials of both the countries jointly inaugurated the friendly dam known as Salam Dam or the Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Mullen and Arora, 2016). India has been assisting the country to eradicate the trades of the Taliban and as a peace gesture, India has been counted as the largest provider of charitable and rebuilding aid to Afghanistan. It can be observed that India has been a constant participant of socio-economic activities in Afghanistan. In this context, India has hugely invested in education, dam construction, and power generation. India invested $2 billion for the development of schools and training centres for security development of more than 4500 Indians living in Afghanistan. The countries constantly organise exchange summits where the prime minister of India and president of Afghanistan meet each other from time to time. The Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) between the countries ensures to assist and provide complete aid to Afghanistan in rebuilding their infrastructure, educational institutions and technical assistance for security development. Furthermore, SPA includes the agreement between the two countries to fight against terrorism (Mullen, 2017). The countries have been highly involved in various political ventures and have been paying high-level visits in the respective countries. The external affair minister of India Smt. Sushma Swaraj paid a visit to Afghanistan and as a symbol of unison and nationhood, the delegates of both the countries jointly instated the flag of Afghanistan. On the other hand, the president of Afghanistan paid a special visit to the oath-taking ceremony of the prime minister of India. It can be noted that Afghanistan has been going through difficult times related to the transitions in political and economic situations, India has been making constant and committed efforts to ensure long-term security and educational development in the country.

Importance of Afghanistan as a Market

The present geo-deliberate situation of Afghanistan is attracting the most important global powers like the USA. The country intends to set up its presence in Afghanistan either by itself or wants to become part of the development process through the initiatives of India and China. In this context, the USA has been making efforts to collaborate with India in order to be part of the security and defence development of the country (Lansford, 2017). Besides this, in order to avail the benefits of the natural resources of the country, the USA has been interacting with China for various ventures. The USA has the intention to avail access to the natural energy resources in order to quench the hunger for expansion in the country. Furthermore, Afghanistan is important to the USA because the country wants to gain knowledge with respect to the Atomic and Missile powers of the Islamic countries through Afghanistan. These efforts have been intended by the USA in order to attract maximum business around the world and to influence the politics of the world.

Conclusion

Afghanistan considers India and China as their traditional and trustworthy friends or neighbouring countries. It is considered that both the countries provide consistent financial and democratic assistance to Afghanistan which has resulted in constant wealth and infrastructural development. It can be noted that China and India have availed the opportunity to potentially use their leadership skills to engage with the country. Whereas, the US seeks to develop their bond with Afghanistan through China and India. Therefore, the essay statement can be quoted as "Afghanistan is too important to fail as it holds utmost importance in the non-western countries.”
