Effective Business Communication

The process of business communication can be defined as the process of sharing and delivering messages and other information within people within and outside the office premises. The process of effective communication clearly defines the relationship between the employers and the employees and the process by which they tend to have a conversation with each other. The efficiency of a business also depends upon the type of business communication that is taken by the organization. Effective communication shall take place at every level of the organization to ensure that the messages are properly circulated in the organization. (DINARDI, 2019). The various components because of which it is essential to have effective business communication can be summarized as follows:-

  • Framing new types of options and business ideas
  • Preparing plans and proposals for the organization with having effective communication with the rest of the employees
  • Making agreements
  • Conducting effective meetings

All the activities of the business, directly and indirectly, rely upon the amount and the type of communication that is conducted in the organization. Barack Obama was the 44th president of the united states. He served as a hard-working president and belonged to a middle-class upbringing with a strong family and he always served with the best intentions. He became the first African American and served the nation with his services. He served the nation with utmost honesty and dedication. The different type of business communication that is performed by a person at the time of conducting a business are as follows:-

  • Formal communication
  • Informal communication
  • Verbal communication
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Upward communication
  • Downward Communication
  • Horizontal communication and
  • Diagonal Communication (Leonard, 2019)

For a leader, it is very essential that shall have an effective communication plan with the help of which he is able to effectively communicate his message to his targeted audience. When it comes to the process of communication that was conducted by President Barack Obama he was an exemplary communicator. He had the effective skills of how to play words in such a way that he very clearly expressed his message to his targeted audience. At the time when he duly served as the president, he used a variety of communication skills to connect with a different type of people he was working with. (Baldoni, 2009). The language that Obama uses at the time of conducting communication and resolving conflicts is so effective that the same reflects different types of principles that are made applicable by him at the time of having a communication. He has duly framed a reputation of a longstanding public speaker and the same is duly visible by the evidence of the speeches that he has conveyed to the people when he served as the president of the country. When a person evaluates the communication attributes of a public speaker various factors are taken into consideration and the same is evaluated.

President Barack Obama used three types of communication techniques to captivate and draw the attention of his audience. He is a gifted public speaker whose communication skills people from different backgrounds can learn how to have an effective leader while conducting a public speech. After analysing different types of speeches delivered by Obama it can be stated that Obama at the time of delivering a speech uses different types of theoretical devices in his speech which has been evident in all of the speeches that have been delivered by him. The major skills that are used by Obama at the time of delivering his speech can be summarized as follows:-

Obama has always used concrete and tangible language at the time of delivering his speech which means that he has the ability to portray an idea in the mindset of the people for what he actually wants to convey.

The technique that is used by him at the time of delivering the speech is referred to as the technique of anaphora which means using a strong phrase or word before starting the speech or delivering a successful sentence.

Non-verbal communication generally takes place when a person used more hand gestures at the time of communicating with the other person. Non-verbal communication is no practiced it is conducted spontaneously at the present moment only. When a person is having a non-verbal communication with the other person, the conversation involves more of the movement of body actions such as the movement of the hand and the tone that is used by the person at the time of having the conversation is realistic. One of the best qualities of Barack Obama at the time of having a conversation is that his body language is always synced with his speech when he is delivering the same to the targeted audience. When a person is hand gestures at the time of making people listen to what he is trying to convey the same makes the entire communication process more indulging and involving. The time when Obama delivers a speech or he tends to deliver or portray a message he speaks as much from his mouth than his hands. His hand movement in the public has always coordinated with what he is delivering to the public. Six of the main gestures that are used by Obama at the time of delivering a speech or using the process of non-verbal communication can be reflected as follows:-

Barack at the time of conducting the conversation uses his hands as much as his mouth which makes him more of a truthful and confident person. At the time of delivering a speech to the public, Obama uses different types of gestures such as waving his hand of which clearly emphasizes his confidence in the public.

Whenever Obama is addressing a speech at the public he makes sure that he is smiling most of the time when he is delivering his speech which clearly shows a sign of submissiveness. It is a proven fact that the leader at the time of delivering his speech when smiles make him more confident and a truthful person. Even if the person is in the middle of a negotiation or a business communication the facial expressions clearly determine that whether you are a confident person or not.

The tone of voice that is used by a person at the time of delivering a speech determines how the people will interpret and perceive your speech. The tone of voice that is used by Obama at the time of delivering a speech is commendable. The time when Obama delivers a speech in public is voice is filled with enthusiasm and pauses which makes people listen to this speech more carefully. A certain kind of confidence is seen at the time when he is delivering his speech. He never screams on the mic at the time of delivering his speech or speaks in such a low voice that it is difficult to understand what exactly is he saying. It is the sign of a good speaker that he shall have an idea of how to play with his voice in such a way that the same appears appealing to the people who are listening to the speech. (Team, 2016)

There have been only a few leaders who have been better than Obama at the time of delivering a speech. The speeches that are written by Obama are beautifully written and have always been delivered in an enthusiastic and expert way. The smile that Obama has on his safe at the time of delivering his speech frames a very positive impact in the mind of the audience and the listeners. The smile that he has on his face at the time of delivering a speech makes him more confident and even the people who are listening to the same. According to psychology the human face recognize smiling face more quickly and the expression of smile is considered as one of the essential element of social interaction. President Obama has been always been considered as an example of a congruent communicator because the body language that is used by Obama at the time of delivering a speech has always supported his message that he wants to convey to the public. (Goman, 2012). Every communication that is conducted or the speech that is delivered depends on two components: the content and the body language of the person that is conveying the message. (Morgan, 2009) The different components that are used by a person at the time of conducting a non-verbal communication are:-

  • Postures
  • Gestures
  • Emblems
  • Facial expression

Oral communication that is conducted by a person is a combination of verbal as well as non-verbal messages.

Group communication relates to the mode of communication that takes place between the employers and employees or different team members that are working in a single team. Majorly all the type of communication that takes place in an organization involving a lot of people comes under the category of group communication only. (team, 2018). Barack Obama has the art of conveying his message in such a way that he is given the title of 'masters of the craft of communication. Barack Obama has been considered as an efficient communicator when it comes to conducting all the types of communication that are either formal, informal, upward, downward, and all the different type of communication that takes place.

Formal interpersonal communication is the type of communication conducted by a person when he knows the productivity level of the employee or the person that he is having a conversation with. It is very essential for an organization as well as individuals to understand the importance of the application of interpersonal communication in conducting day-to-day conversations or either professional communication. Barack Obama has always used his ability and skills and has duly acted as an interpersonal communicator. The different type of campaign that was initiated by Obama used the help of the different type of social media platform so that his conveyed to a larger audience in less amount of time. The new technological platforms that were framed by Obama helped him to have a strategized and didactic conversation with the voters and with many of the voters, he was able to build an interpersonal connection with the help of effective conduct of interpersonal conversation which gave him access for easy dissemination of information from the voters. It is a proven fact that charismatic politicians are considered as one of the best examples of people with effective and skilled interpersonal communication skills.

Barack Obama was knowing the fact that in order to be a great speaker who can influence a large audience it is very essential for the speaker to have verbal, non-verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. (Hankins, 2011). When working in office Obama was considered as one of the best speakers in the office when Obama used to specify people working under him what needs to be done he was extremely captivating and the body language that was used by him at the time of having an interpersonal communication made everyone felt like listening to him with more of concentration and in the office Obama was always defined as an autoreactive, component, and a trustworthy communicator. Obama is well known for the fact that communication is the key to have effective communication. Communication competency encompasses the essential qualities that a leader must possess in order to captivate an audience and efficiently disseminate information to them. This is critical for any leader because their role depends on their ability to guide their team to success, whatever that success might be. The effective communication skills that Obama has been known to everyone. (Graves, 2019).

The type of communication that Obama has is always centered on convincing people what he actually wants to confess to the public. Being in control is also an important part of effective communication. Many professionals start spewing off the first idea that immediately springs to mind. That is a dangerous and undisciplined means of communication. When Barack Obama was asked a tricky challenge, he was using a valuable communication technique by pausing. He'd take some deep breaths and appear to be considering the question and his options.

Time when Barack Obama gives an interview he always acts in a diplomatic way and because of the different types of communication skills that he possesses he is considered to be one of the greatest orators of all time. He always speaks in simple English making sure that his thoughts are clear to everyone that is listening to his speech. One of the things that have been analyzed from listening to Barack Obama's speech is that at the time of narrating a speech it seems like he is narrating a story and the same is observed at the time when he is answering or appearing at an interview. He uses the words in such a simple way that the same creates an image of understanding in the mind of the audience and they effectively connect with the thoughts of Obama. He makes eye contact and uses a different type of gestures as well to convey his message in a better way to the targeted audience. Barak Obama at the time of giving an interview or giving a speech duly changes his tone and speed in a natural way. He always takes a pause when he is about to make a point and it has also been observed that at the time of giving an interview or delivering a speech he always shares his personal stories and other stories making the people connect more towards his speech or the interview that he is giving. He is never over the top expressive at the time of giving a speech or appearing for an interview which means that he always stays calm, rational, and dignified.

When it comes to winning the elections social media played a very essential role for Obama. Twitter was one of the social media platforms that played an essential part which contributed to the win of Obama in the election. Barrack Obama was well versed with the fact that the type of communication that will be conducted by him on social media platforms will surely portray his image in the public in either a good way or a bad way. The tweets that were posted by him on Twitter made people realize that will be the first friendly president that a country can have His tweets have always been expressive which has always portrayed an image of how he will be acting as a chosen president. His tweets created an entire community on Twitter and the president duly used this platform to promote himself.

Political parties always rely on the component of integrated marketing communication to ensure that they are able to build an effective and strong relationship with the voters or their potential audience. When communicating on social media one of the most successful IMC campaigns that have been used have to be the campaigns and communication strategy used by Obama. Obama's new technological platforms enabled him to have a strategized and didactic conversation with voters, and with many of us, he was able to build an interpersonal connection via effective interpersonal conversation, allowing him to quickly distribute information from voters. (Luck, 2010) President Barack Obama used three types of communication techniques to captivate and draw the attention of his audience. He has got those communication skills that when he speaks people tend to listen to what he is saying. Because of the effective communication skills he has been given the title of one of the most influential communicators in recent years and has engaged and motivated the employees working under him with his effective communication skills. (Vance, 2008)When working in office Obama was considered as one of the best speakers in the office when Obama used to specify people working under him what needs to be done he was extremely captivating and the body language that was used by him at the time of having an interpersonal communication made everyone felt like listening to him with more of concentration and in the office Obama was always defined as an autoreactive, component, and a trustworthy communicator.

Hence it can be stated that the different types of communication skills used by him have duly helped him to become one of the most successful presidents of all the times. Communication is the key to success and it truly defines the mindset and the thought process of the person who is expressing his idea. Business leaders shall learn from him how to be effective and successful communicators. He is very good at understanding the concerns of other and no matter what Obama will always find a way to connect while communicating.
