Introduction to Career Development Plan

A career development plan is based on the short-term and long-term goals that help in planning future jobs (Gould, 2017). Formal and informal experiences of employees assist in the current and future jobs to achieve the desired goals. The future career goals define the potential strengths and opportunities of an individual (Vondracek, Lerner & Schulenberg, 2019). This report is based on a career development plan that represents my individual experience, skills, goals, values, education and interests. To manage the career path effectively, this is considered as a fruitful way to address the qualifications and managing pathway for the desired job. I am focusing on my short term and long term career objectives that are aligned with my values. It can help me to analyze my key experiences and learnings that are necessary to work in an organization (Gould, 2017). As a student of Bachelor of Human Resource Management, I am looking towards an effective career that can help me to work as a human resource manager.

Where Do I Want to Be?

I want to focus on my short term and long term objectives to manage my career path. To work in the human resource management industry, it is necessary to maintain my personality and attitude according to the needs of the career. My short-term objectives and long term objectives are as follows:

Short term objectives

  • Complete my Bachelor's degree.
  • Learn the required attitude and behaviour in HRM.
  • Ensure effective communication skills to maintain continuous interaction with peers and professors
  • Ensure the adoption of organization skills and practice with real-life scenarios
  • Focus on decision-making skills by reading different human resource problems
  • Maintain effective relations with the peers and professors
  • Ensure multitasking activities that can help in achieving desired objectives
  • Read different articles based on human resource development to get an understanding of the development needs and required elements (Akkermans, Brenninkmeijer, Schaufeli & Blonk, 2015)

Long term objectives

  • Ensure working in a suitable organization
  • Maintain effective HR policies for the employees
  • Ensuring the good health of employees with a positive working environment
  • Develop a suitable leadership style that can maintain effective opportunities for career growth
  • Maintain high-quality manpower at low cost
  • Focus on the performance management system
  • Effective communication and coordination in the organization
  • Embracing ethical and social development
  • Enhance cultural diversity in the organization
  • Improve organizational goodwill (Akkermans, Brenninkmeijer, Schaufeli & Blonk, 2015; Tung, 2016)

I live in Australia and I am comfortable in pursuing my career at the same place. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I am keen to work in Australia. However, I am comfortable with the location, hours and work in the field of human resource management. As a fresher, I can begin work as an executive while after gaining experience I can apply for better opportunities. I am not facing any issue related to smoking or diet. I am focused on a healthy diet and remain away from alcohol consumption and smoking. It helps me to stay stress-free and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Although I prefer my working hours as per standard time so that I can focus on my social life as well.

Personal values are based on the foundational beliefs that help an individual to make decisions in specific situations (Akkermans, Brenninkmeijer, Schaufeli & Blonk, 2015; Tung, 2016). As an individual, I believe in a healthy and positive life. Through my family and friends, I am focused on my career. Support and love are two major values of my life that helps me to maintain reliable decisions. I am consistently focused on my career that promotes compassion and patience. My core values are self-discipline, self-improvement, integrity, courage, consistency, self-respect, honesty, kindness, responsible, sincerity, commitment, reliability and trustworthy (Beausaert, Segers & Grohnert, 2015; Smaglik, 2016). I don’t find any difficulty in working at any stage because of my compassion. As a teenager, I am looking forward to an effective career opportunity that can help me to explore more in society. This is my exploration stage in career wherein I am looking for an effective job that can help me in learning and making me a suitable career path. At the beginning stage, I am facing different issues such as knowledge and experience in the human resource management industry. However, through the learning opportunities and experience in the filed better knowledge can be easily developed (Beausaert, Segers & Grohnert, 2015).

Where am I now?

I am looking forward to an effective career through my decision-making skills. Currently, I am working towards my degree and learning the key concepts. The major theories and knowledge in the field of human resource management help me to explore better decisions in an organization (Beausaert, Segers & Grohnert, 2015; Smaglik, 2016). I am a trustworthy individual who loves to make new friends and learn new concepts. The consistent approach towards better experience helps me to make independent. I am a quick learner who develops a quick understanding of the concepts and takes effective decisions in complex situations. Most of my friends ask for guidance in their career and life which is a positive attribute of my personality. Personal values are necessary for career management as they help in determining life purpose and managing future actions (Akkermans, Brenninkmeijer, Schaufeli & Blonk, 2015; Tung, 2016). My good choices and decisions are a reflection of my good moral values. Personal values of an individual affect organizational behaviour in managing effective decisions and tackling complex situations (Neureiter & Traut-Mattausch, 2016).

Through my Bachelor program, I am learning about human resource management concepts, human resource planning and the importance of the human resource department. The need for several skills in the organization is also discussed in the course. My current knowledge is based on real-life experiences and theoretical knowledge of human resource management. Bachelor degree in human resource management can help me to manage my abilities and competencies for the desired job. My skills and abilities enhance my career opportunities through effective decision-making skills and learning capability. A positive attitude and quick learning promote effective outcomes at the workplace (Smaglik, 2016). To analyze my capabilities and skills for the desired job, I have conducted a self-assessment survey which can be seen in Appendix 1.

I can achieve my desired goals through a defined action plan. Significant steps and tasks that are necessary to attain the desired goals are known as an action plan. It needs to be measurable, attainable and reliable that can support the individual capabilities and skills. My action plan can be seen as below:

It takes a long time to think about the actions while after writing two actions, it becomes easy to write the actionable activities that can help to achieve the goals. The major benefit of this assignment can be seen as looking into my skills and abilities which I have never thought of. The biggest disadvantage of this assignment can be seen as it is very difficult to reflect upon the weaknesses and maintain specific objectives (Neureiter & Traut-Mattausch, 2016).

Personal values such as confidence, trustworthiness, consistency, self-improvement, integrity, courage, consistency, self-respect, honesty, kindness, responsible and sincerity help to maintain future career goals and overcome the career issues. The defined plan of action comprises of the required career goals and their specific actions that can be taken in the short term or long term period. It is beneficial to maintain lifestyle goals and values to personal actions. The major challenge of this assignment is based on assessing weaknesses and career issues. These challenges are solved by effective understanding and problem-solving behaviour. This assignment is beneficial in understanding the need of analyzing personal values that can overcome the weaknesses.
