Post 1- Mitigating the Mental Effects of Covid 19 on The General Population

The post talks about the adverse effects of COVID 19 on the mental health status of population. The project aims at mitigating this public health issue of mental health which is a current burning issue worldwide. It talksabout making the public aware about the mental health impact on COVID 19 and the importance of finding out ways to improve their mental health. The idea of utilizing social media platform to disseminate education, and improve physical activity of the population as well is a step in the intended direction. It has been observed that mental health impact of COVID 19 is impacting the general population, the patients and their families and the healthcare workers as well. Increase in the workload, discrimination and isolation are becoming increasingly common which result in fear, anxiety, emotional isolation and physical exhaustion associated with sleep disorders amongst the health workers as well(Wang et al, 2020).

Also, there are not enough and adequate counseling and psychiatric services available for depression, suicidal tendencies or anxiety for the general population as well as the health force dealing with infected patients(World Health Organization 2020). So, along with the idea of the social media usage to promote physical activity and spreading awareness about mental health and its improvement especially during COVID times, a psychiatrist counselor can also be made available on a helpline number after liaisoning with the local government as well. It will help expand the public health plan and provide a better impact on the improvement of mental health status of the population as well.

Post 2- Awareness Campaign for Chronic Disease

The post talks about the increasing burden of chronic diseases and how they are impacting the over-all quality of life. It takes into cognizance the fact that they can be controlled by modification of a certain number of risk factors associated with them. The project aims at reducing the over-all chronic disease burden in the population by creating awareness in the people on how to reduce their risk factors. It utilizes the new public health approach of health education and aims at focusing on the exposure to risk factor aspect of new public health(Sallnow et al, 2016). The idea of utilizing social media platforms, radio and television along with liasioning with the local government to create opportunities for reduction in risk factors and creating awareness about the diseases and their management is a step intended in the right direction. The project can also aim to specifically focus on modifying a particular risk factor such as physical activity as it is increasingly becoming a major risk factor and contributor to the burden of most chronic diseases. That can help tailor the approach to a specific context and help improve the over-all management and burden of chronic diseases in the population. Also, targeted approach can be used while making the IEC material for dissemination of information regarding specific diseases- separately for age group and disease wise as well (Deardroff et al, 2018). For example- obesity in school going children and adolescents, hypertension in middle aged population can be targeted. This targeted approach can help in improved outcomes.
