Research and Evaluation

  1. The Evidence

In this article, the author explored about how the skills of critical thinking should be developed in a student with the help of consulting projects. Also, the paper explains about how the faculty gives opinion about the student’s ability to judge. The main aim of the paper is to develop critical thinking in the students by consulting projects. According to Wheeler (2008), the students are able to perceive the marketing projects (Wheeler, 2008). As indicated by Frontczak& Kelley (2000) for the case of consulting projects, there is a requirement that students should reveal on the decision capabilities that they are using (Frontczak& Kelley, 2000). This will help to transform the student learning. So, there is a requirement of proper understanding of critical thinking and the associated judgement before designing the student consulting projects. An analysis of around 99 student consulting projects was carried out by Holler (2010) which utilised both type of data collection methods in the research study that is primary and secondary. The data which was utilised included interviews, reports, information from government articles and also from the secondary sources like websites which are containing the most liked resources of data (Holler, 2010). The research focussed more on the worries about the use of data in the consulting projects. On evaluating the suppositions and reference, the evidence was found out which suggested that there is no use of theories and thumb rules which were learned during the classroom activities by the students. Those theories and thumb rules were applied to the particular customer industry and market situations (Canziani, 2017). Additionally, though there is a requirement to show these capabilities in the consulting projects but there is an evidence that the students will show judgment heuristics which restricts with the capability to determine critical thinking(Calma& Davies, 2020).

  1. Comparison

The research papers deal with the development of critical thinking amoung students. The concept is of great importance. Critical thinking can be described as theintelligentlycontrolledprocedure of actively and competentlytheorizing, applying, examining, creating, and/or assessingdata. This data is collected from, or produced by, observing, experiencing, reflecting, thinking, or interacting, as anadvisor to faith and action(Seele, 2018). The business schools are trying to develop these skills in the students. As per the previousresearches, the critical thinking regards establishment of actual, valuable evidence, applying of context abilities to unlink the issues from the context. It also helps to build and relateapplicableprinciples for making decisions, selecting proper methods for creating a decision and utilising theoreticconceptssuitable to the issue. Also, critical thinking can be regarded as a significant part of psychology in education, office and in daily routine (Dwyer, Boswell & Elliott, 2015). This essay deals with the comparison of two research articles based on critical thinking.

The analysis of both the research articles gave information about the critical thinking in deep(Desai, Berger & Higgs, 2016). As per the first article, the authors suggests that the students who are working on consulting projects need critical thinking which is other than educational theories (Canziani, 2017). In the second article, the authors suggest that critical thinking is dependent on domain and the information which is domain related like business helps to produce business type of Critical Thinking (Dwyer, Boswell & Elliott, 2015). The first article discusses 3 consulting actions related to critical thinking which includes assessing problems, assessing information and assessing assumptions. With the help of these, the students should help the clients in reducing the confusion about the business project. The main problem arose when the students tried to understand the issue from the clients during interviews. Since the issues of the client are critical in nature and the students are not much intelligent to understand those. There is a requirement to build a purpose about the company and their stakeholders prior to deal with the clients. In contrast to this, the finding related to the second article explains that the critical thinking abilities can be converted from general critical thinking to business related critical thinking with the help of business knowledge(Anderson & Reid, 2020). It means that critical thinking can be generalized for all the topics and as per the acquired knowledge it can be specialized.

Secondly, as per the first article, the student should collect information for detailing the succeeding method and recommendations. The data can be gathered in primary way which is from conducting survey and interviews or it can be gathered by using secondary approach like the published information on the web (Holler, 2010). The main concern of data collection is that the data should be verified by the students that whether the data is related to the issue of the particular consulting project. It may be possible that the data collected can be a bit different from the data collected from interviews. Therefore, there is a need to form reliableinformation of the company and the issue which needs to be resolved. All the sources of information must be evaluated. The students are required to check the suppositions sensibly before creating any references to the customer. In contrast to this, as per the second article, critical thinking is a general concept which can be applied to a particular area like business (Bandyopadhyay &Szostek, 2019). The knowledge of business will help in using the critical thinking in business field.

As per the first article, there is a straight consideration of theoretical connections among student consulting tasks and critical thinking with an emphasis on human judgment behaviour. There is no evidence of any attempts which is made to deduce inferences or fundamental relations. Since it is not known that up to what degree a particular limit of customer had impacted the student’s judgment behaviours but it is believed that some kind of heuristic behaviours may repeat through numerous types of projects. According to the second article the capability to apply critical thinking to a specific issue suggests a deep awareness and the capability for deep judgment. This refers to the understanding of the type, restrictions, and faith of knowing judgements. Also, there is a requirement to know about the individuals who defend the reasoning and judgements. It is observed that with the help of judgment research the major focus apply on the profits of deep judgment and the restrictions of instinctive judgment(Anderson & Reid, 2020).

With the help of the analysis it became known that the future researches will be able to explore numerous characters of significant performers in the consulting project which includes student, the customer, and the teacher. The findings from the first article suggests that there will be a positive link among the teacher’s experience and the ratings provided for student’s proficiency, significance and occurrence of student judgment gaps. For examining these relations deeply, there is a need to create a hypothesis. Another area for future research is the scarcity of the information. Also, the situation which is lack of critical thinking should be addressed for the project results like the wrong handling of information on monetaryforecasts or the feasibility of references provided to the customer(Anderson & Reid, 2020).

It can be concluded through the comparison of the two articles that both the articles are similar in developing critical thinking but the thought behind the development of the critical thinking is different. The first article is based on the fact that the students require critical thinking in resolving consulting projects. This critical thinking is different from the educational theories taught to them during the classroom sessions. The second article believes the fact that critical thinking is domain specific which means that it is a general concept which can be applied to any field as per the knowledge gained. Both the articles are useful and valuable in their own terms. Both gave deep information about the critical thinking concept. There are limitations of the concept which are explained. The future aspect of critical thinking is aloes determined.
