According to Mushta, Rush and Andersen (2018), effective decision making in clinical situations is very important for the improved health outcomes of the patient. The clinical decisions that have been made by me for the caring of are always based on clinical reasoning cycle. It is a process of decision making which depends on critical thinking and influenced by preconceptions, attitude and perspective of individuals (Hunter amp Arthur, 2016). This cycle is an effective tool for decision making because it empowers the nursing professionals to determine the outcomes of interventions care provided by them to their clients (Hunter amp Arthur, 2016). Effective skills of clinical reasoning help in preventing the incidents of failure to rescue and enhance the satisfaction of the patients (Hunter amp Arthur, 2016). I collect all the cues and relevant information associated with the clients, process the information with the help of evidence and after reaching a conclusion propose adequate interventions which appear helpful in improving the health outcomes of the patient. The clinical reasoning helps in analysing the self-performance with the help of reflection (Daly, 2018). Thus, it provides an opportunity to learn from the experiences and identifying the potential gaps in the clinical practice for further improvement (Daly, 2018).
Mushta et al. (2018) stated that there are various strategies, for example, rationale based and intuition based, through which decision-making process can be done by the nursing professionals in order to provide safe and quality care to the clients. The rationale-based decision making depends upon evidence, whereas the intuition-based decision making depends on the recognition of specific patterns related to the poor health condition of the patient (Calabretta, Gemser amp Wijnberg, 2017). For effective decision making there, the nurses should interplay between the rationality and intuition (Calabretta et al., 2017).
Clinical reasoning cycle facilitates both of these approaches of decision making by nurses. It suggests that my decision making is more clear with its approaches and outcomes.
