Bridget Jones Diary and Jane Austen's Classic Novel Pride and Prejudice

Bridget jones diary and Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice are based on similar concepts. It can be asserted that, in Pride and Prejudice, and Bridget Jone's Diary, the ideal themes are the same. The main objective of Bridget and Elizabeth is to search a good man, and in their story of searching Mr Right, there are similarities in the actions and characters. Although, Bridget Jone's diary is a modernization of Jane Austen's novel. It is because Bridget Jones may not feel the similar economic pressure to get marries as Elizabeth Bennett. However, she still suffers from significant pressure by society for finding the right guy. However, in both stories, the role of independent heroines, who did not consider the rule of society and put efforts to find their manner, assist towards the creation of stories very compelling (Fielding, 2016).

As mentioned in Page 53, Para 2,”Jane Austen and endangering the Disciplinarity, it can be noticed that, at the time of Jane Austen, the main objective of women was not to achieve an excellent professional career. Women, whether belongs to the middle class or upper class, did not found the opportunity to educate themselves or engage in any work, unlike the present situation. Along with this, their principal and primary objective was to get married to the good man. This was the only manner a woman can guarantee a life without any economic fears. In case, if she did not get married, then her father or afterwards, her brothers are required to provide for her (Kaur, 2019). Therefore, it can be noticed that, at that time, getting married is all the priority of women, and it was only their dream.

On the other hand, Bridget diary is considered as a powerful and independent woman; her fears are consists of that she does not want to live alone without a man at the time she grows older. In this diary, she reflects about her weight and extent about the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Moreover, her plans are never gained, which reflect about ambiguity and absence of confidence. This demonstrates the negative opinion by the society that creates an impact on women and shows the personality of them. This diary shows that the activities of men and women are conducted based on feminine and masculine rules and regulations.

Apart from this, Bridget and her mother, who are burdened by their made controlled society, are affected by significant masculine rules in standing in contrary their opinion of women in the community (Rasmussen, 2017). In contrary to this, father of Bridget and Tom reflect powerful feminine rules in falling and becoming controlled by the masculine community. The diary suggests that men too could suffer under and fight in contrary to their oppressor. In Bridget's diary, the activities between Bridget and Daniel took place at the office, which is the workplace.

As per page 36 Para 1 of the “Feminist Approach to Romantic studies, it has been noticed that, In Pride and Prejudice, Darcy and Elizabeth ultimately gain the right to marry due to each has embarrassed the other out of her and his pride and prejudice. It can be noticed that Bridget Jone's diary is describing the position of women in the modernized world. She faces the community and proves that women could also enjoy the right to freedom and possessing the right to live independently. Although marrying a man in her life does not suggest that she could not live her life alone.

It can be asserted that Bridget Jone's diary applies more modern applications for addressing how pride and prejudice could create an impact on relations and how things can change when two-aspect do not consider. Austin uses similar these but at the time when pride and prejudice plays a significant role due to how society is established (Marsh, 2019).

As mentioned in Page 52, Para 1,”Jane Austen and endangering the Disciplinarity Apart from the Bridget Jone's Diary is conforming to realism. It is because the diary contains the truth about women in a similar manner, a shocking claims when one of required to take into account the details of lives of most of the women that it selects to leave out. In some situations, the results might be significant (Yang and Qin, 2016). For example, if Bridget received emails related to charging from Daniel sexually, was explained as something all women enjoyed at the workplace. The example is mentioned because of highlighting the elements of realism in the novel. Moreover, in this novel, the element concerning ethics and goodness are not considered as the modern audience would not understand their essential aspect. Overall, on the basis of Page 34, Para 1, “Feminist Approach to Romantic Studies” it can be said that, the sort of romantic love which was established by Austin is not possible to attain the modern view.
