The article says about the support of the Indigenous Away-from-Base Bachelor of Midwifery students and provides the additional support like additional clinical placement & cultural support.

In this article author says that death of the mother of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is more than the non-indigenous mother. And child rate also high for indigenous. There is only 234 midwives are indigenous so there is very less number of midwives going to serve their poorer culture. Main problem of the early withdrawal of indigenous student from the programme is the social-economical problem and the struggling from get the study material.

Australian catholic university start Away-from-Base Bachelor of Midwifery degree for indigenous student and main advantage of that is student can study from 100 km away from university and they also get the placement in their cultural region and student gave the feedback about the programme. The author also says that if IALM link with ACU then this degree programme face less challenges and get more explore this programme.

  1. In this study programme use participatory action research methodology improve the quality of the study. PAR avoids the students' viewpoint being misrepresented by non-Indigenous academics. With the contribution of ILAM improve the quality of study.

  2. Ten out of thirteen participants are from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The student in range of age is18 to 50 years. Most participants predominantly residing in Queen Island.

  3. Ethic application review by Australian Catholic University's Human Research Ethics Committee and the committee made of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student. In this committee there no any teacher of university.

  4. Invention participant focus on the group for two hours by face to face interaction and some stuff are given to the participant. In this participant there no any teacher of university. Participants collect data in form of written or recording. This data coded by two researchers and for categorised there is minimum 80% agreement between the coders.

  1. “She gets us”:- Student respects the role of the ILAM for the cultural and academic support. Student also welcome advocacy and ‘cues to action’ provided by the IALM.

  2. “She has our back”:- ILAM provide the service in the form of the advocacy, support and encouragement. The support is about any type is personally and study related.

b. The addition clinical placement based on two question ‘Student focused and student friendly’; and ‘Opportunities to learn’.

  1. ‘Student focused and student friendly’:- There very positive response from the student for the study because of the supportive and student friendly environment and the conformation of the placement.

  2. ‘Opportunities to learn’:- The additional tertiary placement setting helped students consolidate their learning, show initiative, and build confidence in their clinical practice. This is helpful for the student for the additional placement.

Indigenous students’ enrolment in AFB programme shows the work, support and value of the ILAM. IALM communicate the student for their study, domestic and slog issue to support them to resolve this and stay focused on their study. IALM learn the future midwives as they serves in their culture which is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. From this midwives serves in poorer area so that the maternal and infant morbidity rates higher and remote community communicate with midwives.

University with the enhancement program and access of IALM affect the indigenous student retention because while indigenous student get clinical placement university recognise and value their culture. AFB BMid programme understand the indigenous student local cultural requirements and in future reduce the gap of the indigenous health out coming and improve the indigenous health in Australian culture.
