Ethical codes and professional codes in terms of conduct within the medical sector helps the nurses to perform their desired study. It helps the nurses to operate with the guidelines implemented by the organisation. This study will highlight the concept of ethics codes and codes used for the development of professional demeanour within the healthcare centres. It will also shed light on the importance of both the idea for maintaining the professional duties of the nurses within the domain.
Code of ethics in nursing helps in determining the nursing foundation. In the opinion of Pickles, Lacey & King (2019), the concern is related to the provision of the nursing community and care. In addition to this, the ethical code also addresses the moral norms and ideals of nursing professionals (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2020). Australian system of ethics for the nurses is based on the profession of nursing and is applicable to different areas and levels of practice. It is mainly inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Social and Cultural Rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, International Covenant on Economic and others (Waubra Foundation, 2020). It also relates to the report of Human development 2004. In this respect, the code for ethical conduct in nursing reveals quality care, kindness and connection to the patients and their family members, informed decision-making, cultural management and others (Australian Nursing & Midwifery Journal, 2020).
In respect to the ethical codes in terms of nurses, code of professional conduct for the healthcare professionals also gains enormous importance. The National Competency Standard that is being developed for all the nurses registered by the Australian government (Australian Nursing Council, 2020) also influences it. The mentioned code helps in setting proper behavioural instances for the nurses. As a result of this, nurses within the centres of healthcare can get an appropriate idea of behaviour that should be conducted with the patients and the family members of the patients. Hence, both instances hold equal importance for all the nurses within the healthcare centres and are described below.
The primary purpose of the ethical standards reflects the creation of values for all the nurses committed to the nursing professions. In the opinion of Johnstone (2016), it is endorsed on providing professional guidelines to the nurses. As a result of this, nurses are bound by the policies and regulation of the healthcare centres of the domain. Other than that, these mentioned codes also help the nurses in raining them to behave with kindness and respect. As a result of this, it helps the nurses in respecting the patient and their family members and understand them (Australian Nursing Council, 2020).
The mentioned aspects are essential for the nurses as it helps in understanding the patients and the diseases that are being different by the patients. It also helps in monitoring the patients closely so that the nurses can be able to apply the right form of treatment that cure the patient in a proper way. Other than that, as per Ingham-Broomfield (2017), it also guides the nurses in tacking the ethical concerns of the patients. As a result of this, the nurses are well guided to gain the trust of the patients. Based on the obtainable instances, the nurses within the healthcare centres fail to provide the medication to the 62 years old kidney patients that resulted in the decreasing condition of the patient. This reflected negligence in the code of ethics among the nurses of that particular centre. Hence, it can be analysed that following the ethical practices a nurse can be guided in a proper way and can perform all the duties that are being entitled within the centre (Nursing and Midwifery, 2020).
Practised codes for demeanourfor the nurse are equally crucial as the code of ethical aspects among the nurses within the healthcare centres. In the opinion of Snelling (2016), code of conduct helps in behaving correctly with the patients and the family members. This helps the nurses in guiding through the active mode of communication that is intended to be adopted by the nurses while communicating with the patients. The current case of 62 years old patient of kidney depicts low conduct of the nurses within it that fails to comply with the policies of the healthcare centres. Hence, a proper code of conduct among the nurses is helpful in guiding through the appropriate behaviour during the work hours (Nursing and Midwifery, 2020).
Impact of the professional issues as mentioned in the current case is considered as a dangerous threat to the patient’s life. In the opinion of Ingham-Broomfield (2017), issues in the professional standard also seem to be affecting the excellence of the operations and reduce the trust of the patients upon the health professionals. However, the code of ethics is also considered essential for the nurses as it assists in the making of informed decision regarding the patients. It also ensures the safety of the patients through entitlement the patients to the quality of healthcare by the nurses (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, (2020). It also helps in complying with the legal standards within the healthcare organisation by taking proper care of the patients. It also helps the nurses in interacting with the colleagues so that a productive work environment can be created by further implementing proper work practices (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Journal, 2020). Hence, professional issues can also resolved using the mentioned codes further complying with the legal standards.
From the above observation, it can be reflected that ethical codes alongside conduct codes for all the nurses within the healthcare institution plays a very crucial role. Code of ethics according to me such as maintaining proper behaviour, following the organisational policies, respect, kindness and others, guide the nurses in performing the official duties. Besides, I think that the system of demeanour guides the nurses in interacting correctly with the patients, its family members and with the other staffs of the dame institution. As a whole, I feel that the two aspects guide the nurses in enhancing the quality of work. It also helps in recuperating the excellence of concern, further maintaining proper decorum and building an appropriate base of the healthcare institution.
