Indigenous Health and Culture

Self-determination helps the individual to have right regarding their choices concerning their specific economic, social and cultural aspect. The self-determination helps the indigenous individual to prefer and utilize different resources concerning their different cultural belief. The self-determination provides the individual free determination regarding the process that helps to maintain their cultural belief. The Indigenous people have faced many issues concerning their land, health, family and forced relocation that has decreased their right as a citizen so there is a need to improve the self-determination of the Indigenous people.

The social determinant directly increases the individual right which directly helps the individual to improve the quality of life. The social determinant helps to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of the individual and improve the lifestyle. The social determinant not only addresses one aspect of the individual it helps to reduce multiple issues that can help to improve the individual lifestyle. It directly reduces the chances of discrimination and racism as they are directly related to reducing facility to the individual. it also helps to reduce the stress that improves mental wellbeing and social exclusion is also reduced to improve the quality of life of the patient.

The social determinants of the health are divided into many factors concerning different aspect and Indigenous individual have faced many issues that have directly increase their complication. The first aspect is the economic stability that includes employment, income, expenses and after the colonization Indigenous individual has faced economic instability as they were forced to quit studies that reduce chances of employment. The physical environment is another factor that includes housing, transportation, location safety and education is another aspect that includes language, literacy. Food is also considered as a social determinant that includes quantity, quality and accessibility of food. Social support and health care accessibility are some other aspect of the social determinant of health. The three determinants that have directly affected the Marry and John include the physical environment, economic status and social support. 

One of the factors is the discrimination in the health care services for Indigenous individual that has a direct impact over the patient experience. Discrimination leads to the feeling of unimportance and sadness that directly affect the mental wellbeing of the individual. This can be one of the reasons behind the reluctance of the Mary and John to aces the mainstream health services that can lead to a negative impact over their grandchildren. Another reason that can lead to reluctance can be the irrelevant behaviour of the health care professional due to their different cultural belief and values. The less understanding of different cultural belief increases the chances to disrespect different tradition and belief of the individual. The reluctance can due to avoid the relevant behaviour of the health care professional that can decrease the mental wellbeing of the children.

Aboriginal medical service is one the organization that was established in 1971 and it is considered to be the first Aboriginal community controlled health service situated in Australia. The main objective of the organization is to increase the standard of health care services concerning the Aboriginal community belief. It ensures to reduce the chances of discrimination in the health care service to provide accurate care to the Indigenous individual. On the other hand, Aboriginal Land Rights Commission was established in 1973 and the organizations have the objective to identify the Aboriginal land rights. The different data related to the Land right of the Aboriginal individual was presented in two reports that include many aspects like land council act, traditional ownership and royalties that directly explain Aboriginal land rights. Pone of the organization that works to support the stolen generation is the healing foundation to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of the family prevised individual. The increased need to address the stolen generation resides in history as they have faced many issues like trauma, mental illness and isolation from family. The organization work in collaboration with the community to improve the safety of the environment concerning the stolen generation and it helps to improve the mental wellbeing of the Indigenous people. These organizations try to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of the Indigenous individual by promoting equality and equity in every sector of society to address the issue face by the Indigenous population.

One of the key issues that are faced by the Indigenous individual is the Racism due to their darker tone and this has a lead to negative impact over their mental wellbeing. The Racism faced by Marry during her granddaughter administration in preschool directly increases the chances of reluctant behaviour of the Marry toward the organization. Racism is considered to be the act that occurs due to unequal distribution of the resources and it is directly affected by the individual belief. Racism directly harms the mental wellbeing of the individual and it directly leads to a decrease in trust toward the different organization. The trauma faced by the Indigenous population after the colonization directly increase the susceptibility toward this issue and racism lead to social isolation by reducing the facility use by health or government organization.

The racism faced by Rumi during her administration to the preschool has led to negative impact over that can lead to disturbance in mental wellbeing. Cultural safety is considered to be one of the important aspects of any organization as it helps to reduce the chances of discrimination by promoting different cultural belief of the individuals. Cultural competency is not a professional aspect but it is an individual aspect that promotes respecting and promoting different cultural belief to improve client experience. The Aboriginal Torres islander individual is considered to be dark-toned and this is considered to be one of their identification factors. The racism is considered to be the irrelevant behaviour with the Indigenous individual that directly indicate poor cultural safe practise that has a direct impact over the mental wellbeing of the individual. The relevant behaviour of the school staff has led to a negative impact over Rumi and increased her concerned toward the behaviour of the staff member.
