Dear Ms Denise Windsor:

It is with great excitement that I am applying for a Graduate Year position at St Albans Health. I have learned about the Graduate Year Position from your website (St Albans Complete Health Care, n.d.) I am currently earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Victoria University, and I have already earned my Diploma of Nursing also from Victoria University. Nursing has always fascinated me and as a Victoria student who has been placed at many clinical positions including at St Albans hospital, I have observed the excellence, commitment and respect nurses and the medical staff show towards their profession and care they provide to patients, families and society. These qualities of an institution that is committed to lifelong learning of its staff perfectly align with the vision I have for my nursing career – to be an excellent nurse, always learning and caring for people.

You have listed that there are about 620 beds across 5 sites at St Albans which provide a wide variety of clinical services, including general medical, geriatric, mental health, surgical, emergency care, community health, midwifery, and many more (St Albans Complete Health Care, n.d.). I would like to state that as a student nurse, I have undergone training in almost all of those areas. Your hospital’s location, which provides recreational and lifestyle options ranging from rivers to mountains, gets the nature lover in me pretty excited. From the very beginning of my student life, I dreamt of becoming a nurse. I took admission in the prestigious nursing diploma of Victoria university after my school, and after that, I was so determined for higher nursing education that I enrolled in the nursing degree program also. I am fully confident that my passion for nursing and my qualifications make me an ideal candidate for this position at St Albans.

Victoria university’s nursing curriculum provides nursing students with opportunities to work in many nursing environments, including medical, surgical, midwifery, paediatric, perioperative, old age care, mental health, and community health (Bachelor of Nursing, n.d.). These experiences provide a student, like this applicant to earn valuable soft skills and professional skills. Subjects such as anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology of disease conditions, and pharmacology of medicines provide the necessary theoretical knowledge necessary for practising nursing. Nursing is an art as well as a science; a nurse must have current medical knowledge and up-to-date clinical skills (Vega & Hayes, 2019). Nursing program at Victoria university endeavours to provide this art and science in every one of its student nurse, including this applicant, by imparting sufficient social, medical, and personal skills.

A nurse should be aware of the pathophysiology of disease conditions as well know how to talk to a patient and his family. The nursing training imparted is successful in equipping these valuable professional and communication skills in this nurse applicant. The nursing programme inculcates the values of caring, compassion, and empathy for fellow human beings. These qualities are difficult to teach but by providing opportunities of observation, demonstration, life experience, and role modelling Victoria university has been able to meet its objectives. Its student nurse are equipped with these qualities which make them better human beings as well as better healthcare workers. This applicant too is proud to be a member of this elite group.

St Albans can expect to find a graduate nurse from Victoria university to be able to handle all the challenges of providing efficient healthcare services to its clients. A graduate nurse who has undergone vast training in many specialities is immensely beneficial to your institute. A graduate nurse, like this applicant, who possesses both a diploma and degree have had experiences which are gained only by working for many years. These experience sync well with the requirements of a graduate nurse position at St Albans. Critical thinking skills, fast decision making, ability to converse in many languages are qualities which are most necessary in today’s fast-paced work environment (Rainie & Anderson, 2017). The applicant has demonstrated these skills in various work settings during her placement. Her educational background, her passion for the profession, her soft skills, and her experiences makes her suitable for the job at St Albans.

This applicant will be a valuable addition to the healthcare team at St Albans. She is sure that St Albans will provide her with the opportunity to start her career at this prestigious institution. The aim of graduate nursing program of your institute which is to enable graduate nurses to become highly skilled, professional and competent practitioners is an aim every institution must strive for (St Albans Complete Health Care, n.d.). This aim has made her hopes soar to great heights You have a great team of dedicated clinical nurse educators and preceptors who will find this candidate a worthy learner. She finds the clinical rotations preferences after computer matching most appropriate. She also very much appreciates the fact that St Albans provides paid orientation, study days and supernumerary days. She can’t wait to be part of your team. You are cordially invited to call the applicant or email her so that a personal interview can be conducted at your convenience. She appreciates you in advance for your time and she very much looks forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Reva Sharma
