Partnership is a way of doing a project or task where one or more people participate and takes responsibility. Partnership consists of a minimum two people where they come together and take responsibility to grow the organization that is built by them. Partners work together to get a task or project done with collaboration and coordination. In this report, there will be an experience of collaborative learning that I got while working in a project with my group of friends. In this essay I have shared my experience of the advantages and disadvantages of the partnership.
There were many new lessons that I learnt while working in partnership. I also had an experience of the evaluation and actions for community based health that can be taken collaboratively and how it helps the health sector. Few days back we got an opportunity to learn about the actions that can be taken to help the community to fight the health issues that they are facing on the regular days. Community health refers to the branch of medicine that has concerns about the physical health of the community.
Effective partnership refers to the process of building a relationship with other partners by trust, empathy, agreed goal, communication between partners on a daily basis and many more. When I started working on the project that was oriented towards community health with my group of friends, I experienced the effective partnership that it’s not just limited to working with each other on a common project but also has various aspects to learn and to implement them on a daily basis (Sheffi et al., 2019). Effective partnership can lead to better understanding and trustworthy relationships with others. While working in healthcare or researching about healthcare aspects, there are many factors that build an effective partnership includes -
Communication - Communication is very important in the healthcare sector. I explored that communication should be a major principle while working on the same project in partnership (Tong, 2018). The group of my friends were comfortable with each other and that helped us in building a healthy relationship and enabled us to share the important information with each other.
Coordination - Coordination is a very critical and crucial part of the effective partnership. Sometimes it is difficult to coordinate with other people who have different perspectives. Coordination refers to the work that has been done separately but the goal is the same for each partner.
Collaboration - Collaboration refers to the process of getting work done together. I experienced that effective partnership needs collaboration in which every partner takes participation to complete the task or project.
Integration - Integration refers to the people who are separate from each other on the basis of various factors and they come together to accomplish a common task or goal.
All these factors like integration, communication, coordination and collaboration are the major pillars and principles through which an effective partnership is based upon. In my group, we were not perfect in implementing those four aspects of effective partnership but when we realized and observed the problems while working then we explored these factors and started working on them for the better results in our project.
Establishing Relationships - Relationships are the most important factor in the partnership. Relationships are based on the way of treating each other while working on the same goals. Partnership requires the relationship for effective outcomes. It helps in making the tasks and project easier to get done while having a good relationship (Rodrigues et al., 2017). Relationships can prevent partners from conflicts on any topic and it can harm the project and other partners as well. At times, I observed that our group was facing a problem of conflicts with each other and it was harming the project as well then we mutually decided to adapt the ways for establishing and maintaining good relationship with partner:
Be kind and generous to each other
Empathy plays an important role in specially healthcare
Always encourage and appreciate each other’s work
Should provide the proper information that is required in the project
Transparency is very important in building healthy relationships
By implementing all the five ways of maintaining good relationships with each other, we saw a very vast difference in the group. There were no conflicts and better understanding in me and my friends that actually helped us in focusing on the project in an effective way. By having an experience of maintaining and establishing good relationships, it can help the health care providers in connecting the community for their health issues as well. Most of the people from different communities do not prefer communicating with strangers and it requires experiences of establishing relationships to connect with and create trustworthy relationships with people so that they can tell about the issues they are facing in their health and it becomes easier to find out the factors that are causing health issues in the community.
Collaborative learning refers to the accountability, co-operative behaviour, individual responsibility and interdependence of a small group that involves in any project or activity. Learning collaboratively can be affected when each and every person shares the important information regarding the task and project that is meant to be established. Collaborative learning also means a situation when two or more people are working on the same project and they research or gain knowledge about the project. It’s also oriented towards sharing the knowledge that one has (Muda, 2018). Collaborative learning helps in understanding the diversity as well. The partners who belong from different cultures can help each other understand about their culture and background.
It also helps in building the broad thinking skills. In our group, my friends were from different cultures and backgrounds (Hu et al., 2019). The diversity in our group helped in learning new language, beliefs, values and many more aspects from the culture of each other. I experienced that we all friends had different knowledge and perspectives that helped us in understanding and gaining more knowledge from each other. Collaborative learning helped us in exploring and researching about the project that was based on community health. We implemented the knowledge of diversity that we got from collaborative learning to communicate and to build a trust between the people of a community.
Community health refers to the physical wellness of the people belonging to different communities. Community health can be based upon many factors and it can impact many lives. There are four factors that affect community health care that include social factors, physical factors, and individual behavior and community organizations. Physical factors refers to the community that is based on industrially developed areas are more likely to get affected on the basis of health by numerous diseases because of the toxic gases produced by the industrial area and that are released to the water as well and it affects the water bodies (Perez-Stable et al., 2020). The community that resides in over populated areas are more likely to get affected with communicable diseases. Environment also plays an important role in spreading diseases in the community, the environment should be clean where the community resides.
Economy is a major factor of community based health. The wealthy community have low chances of suffering from the diseases because they have proper drainage systems and health care facilities whereas the poor people who are not stable in the terms of economy are more likely to suffer from the diseases as they do not have continuous access to healthcare and they cannot invest in the water drainage system (Banks et al., 2019). Community organization can help in controlling the diseases, efficient medical care and supply of necessary things by organizing the resources like taxes that can help the community. There is also a major factor that is an educational factor that includes poor education when people don't have basic knowledge of taking precautions and how to protect themselves. Individual factors can affect the health of a community. It includes how an individual takes care of himself that is influenced by the habits, health, etc. For the proper healthy community, it is important to take care of the individual’s health.
Me and my friends have learnt various things while working with each other as partners. There are several factors that we experienced and may help us in undertaking community based health that are communication, language, culture, relationships and many more. Health is a broad term, it is not only concerned with biological factors but it is also influenced by the factors of economic, political and social determinants (Armin et al., 2019). The major reason of poor health can be caused and affected by the microorganisms; it is also linked or connected with the social issues and factors that are shortage of water, poverty, financial instability, racism and conflicts. The research of community based health problems is very necessary to overcome problems that are caused from the social and economic factors. Anyone can bring the skills and the knowledge they have to overcome or to deal with the social, economical and political issues (Nolte, 2018).
Knowledge can provide an effective way to deal with those health issues that are faced by the community who are poor and have nothing to recover from all the health problems. The partnership and collaborative learning has the ability to overcome and empower the communities that are facing health issues worldwide with the help of research. The various dimensions of disease such as economic, political and biological can be resolved easily with the power and help of knowledge.
The people who come from different fields and have different knowledge of each sector can help those community based health issues. All the factors help the health care providers to reach out to the people from different communities and help them with proper knowledge and precautions to prevent diseases (Hoeft et al., 2019). I experienced that people from different communities are not ready to communicate with strangers and without communication, a health care provider cannot help the community to prevent them from diseases if the problems that they are facing are not shared.
Collaborative learning helps in understanding the diversity. The partners who belong from different cultures can help each other understand about their culture and background. The diversity in our group helped in learning new language, beliefs, values and many more aspects from the culture of each other. Collaborative learning helped us in exploring and researching about the project that was based on community health. We implemented the knowledge of diversity that we got from collaborative learning to communicate and to build a trust between the people of a community (Barrie & Pizzica, 2019).
Another factor that can help in community based health is building relationships.
I have experienced the factors of partnership with my friends that can help the health care providers in undertaking the community based health actions and evaluations. Partners work together to get a task or project done with collaboration and coordination. Effective partnership refers to the process of building a relationship with other partners by trust, empathy, agreed goal and communication between partners on a daily basis. For the effective partnership, it is important to take care of the factors like communication, integrity, coordination and collaboration between the partners. Relationships are the most important factor in the partnership. Relationships are based on the way of treating each other while working on the same goals. Therefore, collaborative learning and establishing relationships can help the healthcare providers in undertaking the community based health actions.
