Initial Statement of Intent

Introduction

In this report, I am going to reflect upon the meaning of business from my point of view. I am going to also reflect upon the reason due to which I have selected the management course for my post-graduation. I am going to discuss the various encounters I made in the past or my preferences in the past that made me select the management course for my postgraduate studies. This will include both my educational achievement as well as work experience. Additionally, I am going to determine my future goals and objectives with regards to the management course that I am pursuing. I am going to make use of the Gibbs Reflective Cycle to prepare this declaration of intent.

Gibbs Reflective Model

This model was established by Graham Gibbs in the year 1988 and it is determined to be a highly popular theory that will carry an individual over various levels to generate meaning out of the various encounters made in their life (Ahmed, 2019). 

Description

In my point of view, a business is considered to be a process, where commodities and services are sold by making the desired compensation. I think, to execute business, a group of individuals should work together to prepare a strategy towards achieving the goals of the company and work towards increasing the profit of the company.To execute a business, it is important to understand its environment. I think in this context I was very much efficient(Reynolds, 2017). 

I remember a situation when I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree, wherein my class was divided into four groups and I was the leader of one of those groups. All the groups were required to collect sponsorship for the development of charitable organizations, where the poor section of the society would be given education of which they have been deprived of.  The criteria here was that the group who gets the maximum sponsorships will get access to management internship in a reputable organization. As a leader, I thought it would be best if all of us sat together and determined a course of action through which we can achieve the maximum sponsorships by understanding the associated environment. So, there were five members in my group, first, all of us determined a list of organizations that had the chance of sponsoring our purpose, then I allocated different companies to each of the members, who had to work individually towards gaining sponsorship from the organizations given to them. I also considered giving my team members a short presentation on the various techniques to gain sponsorship. I think it was the strategy of our group that made us stand ahead in the competition and we got a chance to work as an intern in one of the reputable marketing companies. Also, it was the success of my sponsorship strategy that made me pursue my post-graduation in management studies(Beausaert et al., 2015). 

Feelings

It was a great experience for me working as a leader of my team. Initially, I felt very tensed that I will not be able manage the situation as I had no idea about the way to achieve sponsorship. But I kept my patience and did a lot of research and created a presentation that helped both me and my group members. However, I had a tough time while making my group ready for the work and to make them efficient enough to gain the required sponsorships. The group members were nervous and I had a tough time motivated them(Sekarwinahyu et al., 2018). 

Evaluation

I achieved good marks in my bachelors’ course in management and on top of that I have a good work experience of six months as a management internwhere my work was to coordinate projects in terms of the business environment. This incident well-equipped me with both practical as well as theoretical knowledge in the field of management. Hence, I think I have achieved the result that I had always expected. The best part was that I was very much confident in terms of all management-related tasks that I had to execute. However, in the course of pursuing my six months internship, I could not attend my classes, thus I think I am required to compensate for the same, as this can prove to be a drawback for me(Yoo, 2016). 

Analysis

 I think the opportunity I got to pursue my internship in a reputable marketing company contributed towards preparing me for the concerned course. I served the company as a management intern for 6 months, where I got to learn about the different techniques to manage a business and learn about various business settings. I learned to create a plan, establish goals, organize and coordinate the different activities among the members of a specific group. Also, my background in commerce both in my high-school as well as in my graduation, supported me to a great extent to get ready for my post-graduation degree.I think, to compensate for the classes I have missed I can look for a good online course for the same that I can pursue side by side along with my post-graduation degree. Also, I will choose any online courses that will help me to further enhance my management skills.(Seyitoğlu et al., 2015). 

Summary (Conclusion)

By means of pursuing my post-graduation in management, I can further enhance my knowledge in the concerned field. By specializing in the field of management I can get job opportunities in good organizations with a good package. 

Action Plan

I think in future, I will work towards doing more internships to enhance my practical skills in the field of management. I would consider taking part in more group projects and execute the assigned tasks as a leader (Goldman et al., 2015). Furthermore, I have a plan to take up the latest online courses on management studies and keep myself updated with the latest trends in the field of management. In this way, my skills will not lag in this world of a high level of competition. I think if I am successful in achieving all these objectives, I will land up in getting a good job in a reputable organization and also with a decent package. Through this, I have a great chance of taking my organization to a great height of success (Patacsil et al., 2017).

Conclusion

Through this report I can conclude that it was my class project of gaining sponsorships, that increased my interest to further pursue my management studies. I think I have proved to be a great planner, organizer as well as a coordinator during my class project that is going to help me in the long run of my career. Furthermore, I think, by pursuing my post-graduation in management studies, I will increase my prospects of finding a good job in a reputable organization. Also, my internship has contributed to a great extent towards enhancing my skills and also increasing my interest in that particular area.
