1) Statement of Interest

In my opinion international development is a global concept introduces to improve the economic, social, health, infrastructural level of development in the society on international scale. International development term is different from the term development as it brings on idea to develop different parts of the society all across the globe. It is a dynamic field where different organizations and governments collaborate together for the benefit of the world population. In other terms, international development means to improve the condition of underdeveloped or poor nations with the help of industrialized nations by giving them a helping hand in term of time and money. It is not an individual’s work or a work of a single organization.

Everyone plays a very important part in the international development of the world. Many organizations and governments under the humanitarian aids are coming forward and providing resources for the development of the individuals in particular nation who are suffering for some or the other reasons. It is observed that some nations like Africa are still considered underdeveloped nations as they do not have the skills, resources and infrastructure to make themselves enter the developing nations list. I am a perfect fit for the international development program because I have knowledge about how this program works and what are its goals and long term vision. If I got selected in the development program, I will try to improve the conditions of the unskilled labor by making them expertise in the areas where they feel comfortable. This act in the program will help me get more exciting opportunities in near future.

2) Travel and International Experience

I am basically from Sri Lanka a small country in the world map. But I always wanted to travel all over the world and education was one of the method by which I can go learn and improve my knowledge about the other cultures and people of the world. I tried to get admission in Swinburne University of technology to pursue bachelor of management in Australia. I met different students from different countries who came to attend an international conference on management. Learning and being with them was totally a different experience since everyone had a different style and approach towards things. There I realized that world has a lot in it and being at one place we have no knowledge of the different shades of it. Living in Australia was another challenge for me initially but later I was used to it.

During my bachelors in accounting and management I came across Aboriginal and indigenous people. I realized after talking to them that the condition is worst even in the developed countries. Thousands and hundreds of people do not have shelter and food for themselves. Seeing their situation, I felt that once I will stand on my own feet, I will try to do something for their wellbeing and being a part of the international program would be my first step towards the poor, needy and well educated unemployed youth.

3) Languages

For conducting any business for sea’s it is important to have knowledge about the language in which business is conducted otherwise it becomes difficult to proceed ahead in the competitive market where every single organization is trying to put the other down. To withstand in such an environment, it was important for me to learn a language with the help of which I can express and share my views to world. English language was a perfect choice for me as after Chinese it is the second most spoken language in the world. So I decided to learn English. My first language is Sinhala and learning English from this language was initially a challenge but later I adopted the skills.

I am well versed in Englishin now and can address huge masses in English. I understand that for international development a single language can strict myself to understand and express my ways to the others. But the chances with English were less. We often overlook the importance of communication and pay stress to less important things. This leads to mistranslations and misunderstandings. It would be bias if I’ll say everyone should know my native language. It is moreover practically impossible because being an Indian Ayran. To travel all across the world or to be a part of an international development program, it is important for me to adopt new cultures and methods. It can therefore have said that other than language culture of the other group of people is equally important. I can write, speak and understand both Sinhala and English.

4) Full-time and Summer Employment

I have worked as a full time senior executive in Hemas n-able pvt ltd in Columbia, Sri Lanka from 1st February 2013 to 1th June 2015. Here I used to supervise the policies to ensure that clients’ needs are met properly. In addition to this, I assisted, managed, monitored budget and optimized cost of the project. I handled back office and even took part in the strategic business planning and implementation. I even worked as an assistant

manager in customer care department of Central investment and Finance PLC, Columbo, Sri Lanka from 5th December 2011 to 28th August 2012. My work was to handle and maintain customer’s queries and resolve their problems. In addition to this, I also worked in HSBC card center as an assistant from 27th October 2010 to 4th December 2011. There I used to handle credit cards and queries of the customer. Apart from occupation I have interest in football and badminton. I have played under 15 and under 19 from President College.

In the past summer activities when I was going to the stadium on regular basis. I saw some indigenous children crying on the roads. It was really very heart breaking incident. They were crying of hunger, seeing this situation I offered them some fruits and protein shake which I was carrying with me to the stadium. It ignited a fire inside me to help and curb poverty from the entire nation.
