Write 200–450 words analyzing a historical social movement and compare/contrast it to the current LGBTTIQQ2SA movement.
Do you consider LGBTTIQQ2SA as a civil rights issue of today? Why or why not?
Answer: The women’s suffrage movement was a fight that lasted for decades and it had taken the activists almost 100 years to get the government to introduce the reform but on august 18th 1920, the constitution of America was amended to include equal rights for women in the country (Douglas, 1993) Since then and even way before that women activists have been fighting for centuries for their equality through the abolition of social and institutional barriers. Greater personal freedom has been the goal for a long time (Dubois et al 1999).
The women’s movement and the LGBTQ movement reject gender and the society given division and discrimination. Both the movements are about acceptance and practice of true individual self-expression that is not discriminatory in any way and is secular as well as socially poignant (Lee, 2017).
To being victims of rampant sexism and misogyny through ages, both the movements understand the importance of being accepted by the society. Having your true identity rejected for years and being denied basic rights because of the social gender constructs have limited the scope of growth for women and LGBTQ members for a long time. This is a consistent alliance against gender and societal norms that are restrictive and biased (Binni, 2012)
The generations today are more politically aware, they have empathy and they understand the importance of this fight. Not only are they more tolerant, they are also more willing to fight this good fight against the archaic constructs of gender conformity. Feminism seeks to end the discrimination, confronting the shame that society piles on effeminate men and the stigma of the masculine woman. It is time to put this in to practice and end the tyranny (Hulko, 2018). The LGBT movement aims to abolish the unfair atrocities of generations; it is built around dismantling harmful social dictates.
