PART A: Reflection 


The modern organizations allow the managers to be more responsive and adaptable in the growing corporate world. It cannot be possible without applying four primary functions of management such as planning, organizing, leadership and controlling. The incident is related to my training days in Health & Safety Company where I joined as a management trainee. The company was involved in manufacturing masks and gloves that are useful in industrial area. During my training sessions, I had to work under the manager who was managing the whole department which provides me a better opportunity of learning the functions of management. After three months of joining, the manager went on an urgent leave for three days due to some personal issues. Thus, in his absence I myself decided to play his role because at that time there was no substitute for him to continue the production and this way I could explore my skills and potential.  


During training days and managing the team, I realized that it is very important to determine the goals and objectives of the task so that appropriate planning should be done in order to complete the task effectively. There were several challenges and issues that I had faced during managing the team. I learned the importance of planning for achieving better outcomes. It determines the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization. 

The managers have to develop the structure of work that helps in distributing and allocating the task to the particular members so that the goals and objective will be achieved (St Andre, 2015). Allocation of the task as per the capabilities of the team member is very necessary and important in order to get better outcomes.

Often, the team members are unable to solve the issues by themselves; they need appropriate guidance and direction from the person who has the ability to provide assistance (Fernandez & Chiambaretto, 2016). Therefore, I believed that leadership is the most essential function of management. 

I also realized that it is the responsibility of the manager to evaluate the performance of the employees so that they can take effective actions in order to improve their performance. The controlling function helps in measuring the accurate performance. 

Critical evaluation

While handling the team, I continued the work with the current plan because the task was already in progressing stage and performing well. There were several options available such as making changes in the plan or modify them but I decided to stay with the current plan because of the shortage of time. While organizing the team, I followed organizational Theory Y because the employees already perform better by having the guidance of the manager. In such occasion, applying other method may not be much effective and could unbalance the working environment. There are several leadership styles that can be used for leading the team; I used the behavioral theory for leading the team as it involves the satisfaction of the employee's work and the nature of their job. It helped a lot in achieving the outcomes and completing the goal in an effective way. For controlling, I applied the feedback system, worked according to the performance of the team members and helped them in strengthen their weak areas.
