Introduction to Project Management

Due to its versatility and ability to control cost and time in an efficient custom, Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM) is gaining popularity in the educational settings. Different types of organisations involving charitable institutions, governmental organisations and companies are making efforts for defining their long-term and short-term objectives in a way that suitable design strategies are developed for accomplishing the same. However, the strategies may fail and produce stressful outcomes (Kerzner 2019). Project management is henceforth, a general purpose management tool which ensures successful completion of the project to a satisfactory level by following a step-by-step procedure considering the budgeted cost, scope, quality, deadline and schedule. It is applicable for all organisational settings and educational institutions with the aim of addressing the core objectives. Educational settings recognise the advantages offered by project management in terms of sectioning work into bounded projects and using corporate management to stress on different tasks in a timely manner.

Project management models reflect different aspects of capabilities, reality and are known to define the qualitative attributes which specify clearly defined areas and competence object (Steinberg 2019). PMMM assists businesses in addressing different fundamental aspects of managing projects and handling the probability of the results and reducing the likelihood of adverse outcomes. The PMMM is comprised of five different levels. The initial level is a common language, the phase is a repeatable process; also referred to as common processes. The third step is a singular methodology which is also called a defined process. The fourth level is benchmarking and it is followed by the continuous improvement or optimized process. In this model, each process is focused on specific outcomes and is descriptive and consistent in terms of structure (Kostalova and Tetrevova 2018). Education institutions are also aiming for standardizing their procedures for completing and managing projects in a successful custom. For improving the overall performance of the organisation, it is essential to reach a maturity level in project management for progressive maturity.

In the educational institutions, it is essential that the leaders and managers of the institutions acknowledge the way of planning and managing the project. Project management in this industry is usually concerned with the development, management and engineering. Since project management is employed in different areas, it requires control of the three key variables which involve performance, time and cost. This model is helpful in mapping performance improvement and is henceforth, essential for educational organisations for improving the maturity experience, saving costs and enhanced schedule, predictability and enhanced quality (Kerzner 2019). With the unremitting growth of knowledge of project management and programs, educational institutions want to enhance their learning curve of project management maturity for improving the performance of projects and assessing the profitability of successfully performing and executing a project. It improves the probability of positive outcomes and provides best practices for ensuring the efficaciousness at performing different project management tasks.
