Descriptions

The guest lecture titled People Culture and Contemporary Leadership given by Kylie Bishop. The subject chosen was so appropriate as it has great relevance in the present business world. Kylie Bishop is a successful entrepreneur and CEO of LBW Co. Pty. Ltd. Her organisation is working towards developing solutions for the organisations facing environmental issues across Australia. The company was founded in 2017 and since then Kylie is working with her great leadership qualities and communication styles which helped her in gaining successes. The following essay will highlight the area of leadership as what are the most significant ways of leading people. Apart from this diffident issue that are faced while managing the human resource is also highlighted.

The talk started with how Kylie thinking changed and with time she ended up doing something she never thought off. She initially wanted to be a teacher at the age of 17 but then got suggestion by her teacher to choose some other profession considering it to be less successful. It shows that she was futuristic and started exploring professional opportunities in the early stages of life (MBA401 Industry Guest Speaker, Kylie Bishop- Shared screen with speaker view, 2020). From her life experience I found out that there is no right time one should wait for and must start looking for what is best for us. She further mentions her inspirations which were her uncles whom she considered as a good businessman. It shows that one should be a good observer. This helped me in knowing that it is not necessary that everything is learned from books, but real-life examples should also be considered. She chooses to go in the accounting field and then was asked to pursue engineering course. It was a rare combination at that time and there were very few females in this field. She then added few talks about her personality which reflects her interest in uncommon things. It reflects that to succeed one needs too think differently as this way a new example can be established. It encouraged me to explore more options so that wise choice for future can be made.

Interpretation

Speaker said that sharing knowledge with others is one of the most important things to grow and is a part of good leadership and management. She added that in order to motivate people it is required that their perspective is also given value to. Most of the human resource want do work which is simple, repeatable and consistency. Therefore, it is important that strategies are made in advance and it must be realistic added KYLIE as according to her plan which lacks the implementation ability is as equivalent to a fancy document simply lying on someone’s shelf. This statement has relevance in the corporate world where objectives and goals are set according to the capacity and resources as only then the set targets are achievable. Many leadership styles were discussed among which according to author being authentic is most important. For this leader must be honest with the followers as this helps in developing trust and long-term connections among the parties involved. When people have emotional attachments, they perform better as this gives them a feeling of belongingness and hence resources are utilised to their full capacity.

Kylie said that convincing others for the same idea is the most common issue which was faced by her as every entrepreneur has their own thinking process and perspective which cannot be changed just by own thinking. This reflects the importance of having good interaction skills and I realised that to further grow I need to work more on my communication. The other challenge which was mentioned by her while managing people was of establishing a common interest between the expectations of the company and human resource. She said that it is not easy to get expected results when people do not have their own benefit involve in the results. It develops my understating of the importance of working together with other people. I found out that alone no goals can be achieved, and it is critical that others also believe in you and your ideas as only then you will be provided with more chances to grow (Leroy and et.al., 2018). If I am successful in raising all these skills, I will be able to do well in future and for this it is vital that the discussed leadership styles and managing people approaches are learnt.

Opinion

I personally found this Guest lecture very valuable as it enlightened my understanding of different concepts related to people, Culture and Contemporary Leadership (Conger, 2015). From the different examples given by KYLIE I realised it is not an easy task to survive in the business world. One must be a very good leader as only then long-term success can be achieved. Leadership demand diversified skills and to excel it is important for a person to believe in themselves. I also got to know that no one can reach to higher success until a step out of their comfort zone is taken. Self-analysis should be done so that one can recognise the area of their expertise and then choose the future option. this will increase the interest and chances of favourable results with comparatively less efforts (Wagner, 2016).

This way my overall perspective of choosing the carer opportunities changed and I found that it is not necessary that we end up doing something which we plan for. Things changes with time and experiences and till the time we are not very sure about any option we should not go for it. I realised that more challenges come with greater opportunities as while facing the problems we recognise our hidden skills which were not explored before. Lastly, I also learned many new concepts relating to leadership which is important in life to grow. To become effective leader the most important thing is that followers believe in their leader and like to get command from them.
