Description of Medication Error Reporting

While performing a surgical operation, I made a tremendous medication error. The error was a prescribing error where a patient was overdosed with certain medications due to which the patient had to suffer serious adversities. I made an error in reporting the actual amount of dose to be administered to the patient. So, I was certainly responsible for this mishap

Feeling of Medication Error Reporting

Initially was shattered as it was the gravest error that I made in my medical career. My feelings told my inner self that I am guilty of this erroneous conduct. I was concerned with this incident because as a healthcare worker, it's our duty to look after the wellbeing of our patients. My feelings changed after listening to words of consolation from our leader and my teammates. Although, they tried to explain to me that humans make mistake but I was thinking that I could never forgive myself.

Evaluation of Medication Error Reporting

My lack of engrossment towards work leading to this error made me unhappy as my patient was harmed. My colleagues were helpful in this situation as they have made mistakes in their lives as well. All sorts of ethical principals were abolished from my side which could harm my future in medical practice. I could relate this incident with some other incident when I made an error administering the wrong dose to my patient. The error which I made harmed my patient as the estimated recovery time of his got extended from a few days to several months.

Conclusion on Medication Error Reporting

This incident made me realize the importance of concentration and awareness of medical practices. I would take more care while reporting dosage values if a similar situation arose again.
