Introduction to Mental Health Impacts of Covid-19

COVID-19 has a significant impact on the people around the world due to the bodily signs in infected patients. It has explored psychological distress among the students and employees during lockdown periods in states and countries.

Parents of the students tend to experience fear due to the reason of getting infected with the virus. The social distancing caused disruptions to the daily routines of children in attending schools. Adolescents and children are caught from mental health issues due to a lack of access to resources that they usually have to get by attending schools. The closing of schools and colleges led to an increase in the symptoms of mental stress. Especially children who require special education needs such as autism spectrum disorder are at risk. Several workers such as bus drivers, support staff, sanitation workers, or other essential staff are exempted during the COVID-19 situation from their duties and it was noted that around 90% of them do not have the facility to work from home (Que, Le & Liu et al., 2020). In addition to this, the prevalence of racism has been experienced by essential workers with acts of violence against black bodies in some countries. Intersectionality and prevalence of disproportion in low-wage, high-risk occupations have been highlighted in the countries. These situations have caused low wages to workers that resulted in stress, nightmares, burnout, and insomnia. This has caused a disproportionate level to the number of deaths and grief of family members, friends, and their loved ones (Rossi, Socci & Talevi et al., 2020).

Conclusion on Mental Health Impacts of Covid-19

The students and employees have been affected because they experience anxiety, depression, and stress. More than a third of the total population has been affected due to restricted movements in lockdown. Employees were instructed to keep social detachment, wear a surgical mask, and disinfect their hands repeatedly.
