Executive Summary of Leadership Development Plan

This is a reflective leadership development plan based on the current stage of my life and career. This plan will explain the reason of choosing 5 years for my development. To initiate and work on the self made plan is difficult and it is also difficult to know whether it will lead me to the correct path in this challenging business environment. To solve this issue monitoring each step and taking feedback by others on the build plan could be helpful. This plan will also reflect my own personal leadership traits.

Introduction to Leadership Development Plan

Following my MBA, I want to work with a top management consulting company like McKinsey, BCG, or Bain to gain experience from a wide range of client engagements. I'll work my way up to partner status, and in the long run, I'll focus on introducing digital strategies to the financial sector. In my position, I will guide younger generations of emerging consultants as well as work with clients. It will take almost 5 years on the basis of the traits I will follow to achieve my career goal. The main aim of this assessment is to prepare and present a plan for my development as a leader. This assessment follows the Whitmore GROW Model of leadership development by using SMART method to set goals. This assessment reflects my own personal leadership traits and comprises of how I wanted to see myself in 5 years. Also what am I aspiring and how has the leadership helped me to improve my journey.

Methodology of Leadership Development Plan

Life can seem chaotic and out of reach if you don't have a definite target in mind, whether it's in your professional, academic, or personal life. We all make decisions on what we want to do and accomplish in the short and long term, but many of these decisions are made without much structure or purpose. The process of setting goals that relate to the things we want to do and accomplish will make a big difference to our motivation and increase the likelihood of success. For example, rather than simply saying “I want to pass my upcoming test”, you can set yourself a realistic target (maybe 60 percent ) and have specific learning goals. Rather than concentrating on only getting through and passing, be straightforward on what you want to learn. The same principle applies to your career choice in a broader sense: rather than simply declaring, "I want to be a Human Resource Manager," consider specific goals you want to accomplish along the way to landing your dream job.

The SMART approach is one of the most useful goal-setting methodologies that help to articulate the thoughts, concentrate the efforts, and improve the chances of achieving what you are capable of. Many facets of your life will benefit from using the SMART approach to set goals. It will give your life and routine some order and meaning, and it will make you feel like you are accomplishing what you are capable of. The SMART approach can be applied to both small and large goals, as well as in your professional, family, and academic lives. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely is an acronym that stands for ‘SMART’. SMART methodology in this plan is used to ensure that the details of my plan are measurable as well achievable. This methodology will also ensure that my goals must be grounded in my core values and reflect my authentic leadership behaviors (Edwardson, 2018).

Whitmore GROW Model

The GROW Model is a coaching system for unlocking ability and opportunities in interactions, meetings, and daily leadership. Sir John Whitmore, one of our co-founders, and his colleagues founded Develop in the late 1980s. It has since become the most widely used problem-solving, goal-setting, and performance-improvement coaching model in the world. GROW is more than a common coaching model among coaches. It's also a powerful leadership tool that transcends disciplines and cultures. GROW has become a worldwide success thanks to its four deceptively easy moves. Due to its excellent performance, it is the foundation of coaching in many companies and universities around the world. It assists people in achieving their goals. GROW is an abbreviation that stands for Goal, Reality, Options and Will which defines, what do you want? where are you now? what could you do? what will you do? to achieve the success (Passmore & Sinclair, 2020).


To set my goal I used the SMART methodology and have also analyzed the according to the situation, adaptable changes, risks and transformational journey to achieve the goal. I want to work with a top management consulting firm like McKinsey, BCG, or Bain to gain experience working with a diverse range of clients. I'll work my way up to being a partner. I'm going to concentrate on applying digital solutions to the financial industry. In my position, I will mentor and work with younger generations of consultants as well as clients.


I am currently pursuing MBA to achieve my goals it will still need time for me to attain the goal of my life as I have not completed my educations yet.

There are several main characteristics/ qualities that any good consultant should possess, regardless of the type of consulting field an individual wishes to join or the firm for which they wish to work: Being self-assured, being a good listener, being a team player, being able to quickly cultivate and win client confidence, exhibiting modesty, having good communication skills, and being able to demonstrate expert knowledge are all desirable qualities.

Have Self-Assuredness- When speaking with customers, make sure your answers to their questions do not show or sound vague. Speak authoritatively, when addressing sensitive client matters, in particular, introduce yourself as confidently as possible and avoid appearing unclear or unsure in your answer.

Show Humility- Humility does not imply that you believe you are superior to others. When dealing with partners, avoid being rude or boastful. Remember that the people you're dealing with might have done the job you're now supposed to fix or enhance. Always remember that the client is the star of the show, and your role as a consultant is to assist the client in shining.

Being a good listener is important- Listening to the client's needs and concerns is the most effective way to ensure that you will be able to address their dilemma as quickly and efficiently as possible. Even if you've done your homework or dealt with a similar problem before, don't assume you know anything about their problems or business.

Be Able to Demonstrate Expert Knowledge- Your client hired you (or your firm) because they expected you (or your firm) to have more experience than their internal teams, or because they lacked the resources or time to solve the problems at hand. Ensure that you demonstrate your understanding of this specific area of expertise in all dealings with your client. To stay competitive and on top of the game, you must continue your education. To learn and retain the information that is requested from the client, you should still be reading posts, blogs, whitepapers, and networking with other industry professionals.

Client Confidence Can Be Cultivated and Earned Easily- All of these abilities eventually contribute to the final trait of gaining the clients' confidence. Your partnership will not be fruitful if the client does not have faith in you as a consultant. The ability to calm the client's fears and demonstrate value for the money spent by the client is critical to the engagement's success and the ability to gain future business from this client or from their referral to their network (May, 2020).

There are certain obstacles that might stop me to keep moving forward like:

  • Lack of creativity - We're all imaginative people, including you. However, we convince ourselves along the way that we aren't good at some things, and this sticks in our heads, changing what we consider to be true. You will face difficulties on your trip. Finding the energy to come up with new concepts and ideas is what creativity entails. When things don't go your way, you'll need to be creative in order to overcome obstacles.
  • Negative thinking - Negative thinking is something that we all deal with. You believe you are unqualified, and this makes you want to quit before you even begin. Negative thoughts are a powerful stumbling block because they appear to intensify and can become a self-fulfilling prophecy once they start. Negativity will limit our minds, make us think we can't alter our behavior.
  • Imposter syndrome - Negative thought, if left unchecked, will destroy your self-esteem. You soon begin to doubt your ability to complete the work needed to achieve your objective. Overcoming the inner critic who tells you that you don't deserve to be happy will transform your life and attitude.
  • Distractions - We all get caught up in a distracting worm hole every now and then. You want to reach that milestone, but we keep getting distracted. How can you finish anything when you keep adding new items to the list?
  • Refusing to put efforts - There is no replacement for getting down to business. There is no such thing as a magic pill or a shortcut to success. If you need a reminder, watch Beyonce's Homecoming. There's no substitute for hard work.
  • Time traps - Many of us mention a lack of time as the primary explanation for their failure to achieve their objectives. Make modifications where you find you are wasting time by writing down what you are doing in your twenty-four hours. Block social media with applications on your phone and set limits to help you notice bad habits.
  • Vague aspirations - Like one of my mentors once said, "Never do something that is ambiguous. It's just a waste of time or resources." It will be difficult to stay focused on your objectives until you have a clear understanding of what you really want. Unmet expectations are the product of vague hopes.


To overcome these hurdles TRIBE methodology could be used. This method helps to keep up the goals and visions and build a structure to protect from falling into bad habits. This methodology includes:

  • Time- reviewing the plan and structuring a schedule to work accordingly.
  • Resources and relationships- give yourself props based on your accomplishments and keep up the momentum.
  • Innovation- think differently about your situation and look for visuals that define your goal.
  • Beliefs- pay attention to your mission, don’t doubt on yourself and release negative thoughts.
  • Evolve- set SMARTER goals and make sure that they can evolve according to the situations and record them (Teixeira & O’Brien, 2018)


To attain my career goals I have opted for MBA to build my academic skills. I am also taking some certification courses to enhance my professional skills in order to attain my goals. After the completion of my certification courses I will apply and enroll in the internship programs offered by good management consulting firms along with my studies. Once I complete my MBA I will start my career by working for my dreams company. As I am committed towards my career objectives I will achieve my goal which is being partner of one of my dream multinational companies. And when it will be done I will be known as the business partner and the leader of the MNC all over.

Effective small business leaders are not only able to persuade others to join them, but they also recognize the value of leading by example. Small business owners who demonstrate leadership skills and lead by example in the workplace foster a trusting and respectful working atmosphere. Employee respect will go a long way toward assisting you in achieving your career objectives. Employees who admire their boss are more willing to adapt to organizational changes and are more likely to produce at a high level.

Making a Decision

The willingness of a company owner to make important decisions is crucial to the success of a small business. According to Professor Hossein Arsham's article on the University of Baltimore's website, the ability to concentrate your physical and mental energy on a specific decision without being frustrated is the first requisite of success. Leadership abilities assist you in making strategic decisions and establishing specific objectives for your business. It is necessary for business owners to make decisions that are unpopular with workers or investors from time to time. Leadership abilities will assist a business owner in sticking to his decision and belief amid opposition from others.

Employees Should Be Motivated

Employee morale is key to a small business's success. Employees who are motivated are more efficient and generally happy with their careers. Employees who are unmotivated will harm a company by working ineffectively and not performing according to the company's expectations. According to Money-Zine.com, leadership techniques can make business owners inspire and influence their workers while also increasing employee morale.

Owners of businesses must consider what motivates workers, which normally goes beyond pay. Recognition, constructive performance reviews, and providing workers with the support and tools they need to excel are all important motivators.

Reflection on Leadership Development Plan

The above mentioned information has motivated me to be a leader to help and support the future generations to be at the place I will be standing. To achieve this goal I followed this model and by using it I feel more confident. This model also made me realize that by setting plan and working on it make things look easier to achieve. This plan also made realize of some of the objectives I need to follow which are: maintaining good relations, be in a learning phase always, evolve according to the situations and demands but stick to your goals and it will be achieved.

Conclusion on Leadership Development Plan

This interesting reflective leadership development plan can be concluded by a note of making changes in the plan accordingly and keeping the record of it so that it cannot distract me to achieve my goal. This plan made me understand that to become a successful leader you need to be a good listener, build communicative and strong leadership, co-operate and contribute to other people works to gain their trust and strengthen myself.
