Importance of Patient’s Safety in Nursing

Description

A lady of 42 years old with renal transplant was assigned to me after the transplantation. I found that she had high body temperature for many days and showed flu-like symptoms with signs of restlessness. I administered her with some drugs to make her sleep. This health deterioration happened because I did not conduct the recommended tests and assessments for her.

Feelings

I found myself guilty because I got panic with the patient’s condition and also did not carefully take the information and tests recommended for the patient in her ISBAR. I felt to be irresponsible and careless at my part.

Evaluation

The negative part was the patient’s condition was deteriorating and I was unable to manage her health status. The positive part was only the moments when the patient felt sleepy after drug administration and slept without feeling the sense of her pain.

Analysis

I learned from this experience that the patient’s health is a prime factor that should always be prioritized to maintain good health status. The nurses play a crucial role in the patient’s health care and safety through continued monitoring and coordination in health care (Okuyama et al., 2018).

Conclusion

For better patient outcomes the concept of patient safety is highly important (Okuyama et al., 2018). The renal transplant patients are at high risk of rejection due to infections so it is a prime duty to be very particular with drugs administered to the body.

Action plan

If this situation occurred in the future, then I will prioritize the patient’s health and provide her with recommended tests and assessments.

Role of Nutritionists and Physiotherapists in Health Care

Description

A patient of 66 years was admitted to a hospital diagnosed with obesity and diabetes. He displayed vision loss, nerve damage, sleep apnea, and dizziness. As the patient had high blood pressure because of his obesity, this resulted in his hypertension and signs of chest pain. I conducted vital signs assessments and informed the doctor immediately.

Feelings

I felt that I was responsible for my part as after I informed that doctor further important immediate actions were taken for the patient’s health stability. I felt happy for the patient’s stable state of health.

Evaluation

The positive part was immediate steps were taken to stabilize the patient. The negative part was the various complications suffered by the patient due to his diabetes and obesity.

Analysis

I learned that for such patients regular blood sugar tests, counseling with physiotherapists, a healthy diet as suggested by the nutritionists, and regular assessments should be performed to trace the progress or deterioration levels. The role of nutritionists is to reduce nutritional related risks on the patient’s health (Schiavo et al., 2019).

Conclusion

The physiotherapists help the patient to make him aware of his health condition and help him improving the same (Lefmann & Crane, 2016). The analysis, diagnosis, and provide treatment plans to reduce the diseased state of health.

Action plan

If this situation occurred in the future, then I will provide nutritionists and physiotherapists care services to the patient as early as possible. The physiotherapists provide exercise plans and nutritionists provide proper diet plans for improved health of the patients.
