Engagement in Professional Nursing

Introduction to Engagement in Professional Nursing

The papers of both the authors are being criticized in this essay by presenting their views and the steps taken by them in following an evidence-based nursing practice. This essay will reflect on the point that nursing professionals have a greater role to play in the healthcare sector. They deliver the services based on proven theories and lectures so that the patient could get the best possible care from the staff. In the nursing practice, the professionals have intense knowledge and skills to perform all the activities. In this critique of both the papers will be presented by discussing the aim, methodology, results, conclusion, internal validity, external validity, measurement validity, the trustworthiness of papers, contributions, relativeness to each other, and clinical issues considered in both the papers. The paper will be helping us in analyzing the commitment and skills of nursing work performances.

In Paper 1 presented by Rostanmia, Ghanbari, Shabani, Farahani & Dehgan-Nayeri did the researchers examine the effectiveness of two educational methods on nursing professional’s commitment and skills to implement evidence-based practice. They said that nursing professionals play a vital role in delivering the best possible nursing care to patients with their evidence-based skills and knowledge. But, in their article, several other authors like Adib Hajbaghery, Linton & Prasun, Mehrdad, Joolaee, Joulaee, & Baharni said that nursing professionals were not having sufficient skills and knowledge to work on computers rather this is very important in today's world because all the records, patient monitoring, and investigations are done through digital technologies.

Paper 2 aimed at identifying and describing the nursing professionals' understanding of working with evidence-based nursing (EBN) in clinical practice. This was the study done by Karlsson, Lindeborg, Gunningberg, & Jangland presenting that evidence-based healthcare is recognized as the fundamental to nursing practice. This is because this is very challenging to present how nursing professionals perform their activities in healthcare institutions.

The methodology adopted for paper 1 was that this was an educational intervention study in which ninety nursing members were randomly assigned, three groups. The inclusion criteria for the research were the nursing members who were having less than one year of experience in the award. No such type of blinding was there as the participants were told about the aim of the research. The participants were allowed to take part in a two-day training course. Two activities done with the group of professionals were that one was in multimedia group given training on instructive content through videos and the other collection of participants was not given any type of training. These activities were done to analyze that after one month the teaching sessions were having any impact or not. On the other hand, in the second paper, the qualitative explorative design was used with a phenomenographic approach. Here, the interview of 21 nursing professionals was conducted in Swedish surgical wards.

These methodologies adopted gave different results according to the experiments done such as in paper 1 The evidence-based skills of nurses intervention were enhanced with the knowledge in the group that was given training using video educational content rather than in control group that was not given any kinds of training. The mean score that was calculated was slightly better than the seminar group. But, the disparity is not statistically measurable and authentic. This showed that the commitment of evidence-based practice did not change with the time among the groups. In paper 2 as the intervention did was different so the authors described three understandings from evidence-based nursing among nursing professionals in surgical care. The points that were presented were as follows:

  • difficult and not clear concepts were not used in clinical practice.
  • An evidence-based knowledge approach is an significant approach that is directed by colleagues and undergraduates.
  • It is the process that nursing professionals are accountable for managing and developing.

The results of However, two different types of approaches were used in both the studies and presented different results this can be concluded as paper 1 reveal that different methods of exercise can be used in refining evidence-based skills, however, the promise of participants do not change for evidence-based practice. The use of multimedia can be done as it is a cost-effective method to give training to professionals. On the other hand, in paper 2 it has been concluded that nursing professionals work with evidence-based practice in surgical wards on wide concepts. They have very important tasks in the ward to do for this they have to create a common outlook among the nursing professionals regarding incorporating research, clinical experience, and patient experience in decision-making. The findings of these papers can help in inspiring the nursing executives to imitate on how the nurses could act as a catalyst in quality upgradation service delivery. Both the studies were different from each other and presented different views on the evidence-based nursing practice.

Validity is the point that indicates the indication of the soundness of research. It is applied both to methodology and the design. Also, it represents that the phenomenon chosen to do this study is true. Here, in paper 1 stated that six questions were formulated for the researchable topic, 12 interrogations reviewed searching and finding apprenticeships, and 16 questions evaluated confirming the evidence. Each matter was rated on a Likert scale varying from a 4-point scale. The dependability was examined after confirming the validity of the questionnaire by 30 nursing authorities who accomplished the questionnaire. According to the calculation, the scores were .80 for skills and .93 for commitment.

The validity of the second paper was not there because the nursing professionals' understanding of evidence-based nursing in surgical wards varied on a large scale. There was a point in the study when the data saturation happened after collecting the data from 21 participants. The calculated sample included members from numerous surgical wards of the clinic across the nation state. Hence, it led to the transferability of the outcomes to the other surgical situations. The findings of this study stated that the factors have affected and caused by the interventions. Also, it helped to generalize the content that a large number of people have the effect of variables and interventions of study.

The trustworthiness of both papers is very different from each other. It is because we can have a high degree of confidence in the paper second. It is because the interpretation of data is done based on data saturation at the time of analysis. The quality of data is not reliable in the case of the second paper. The researchers should establish procedures and protocols for a study to be considered worthy of consideration by readers. The criteria of trustworthiness include a high degree of credibility, dependability, transferability, and confirmability and later adds to the credibility of data. Opposite to this, the paper 1 was the interventional study that included educational means. The study was having proper means of data compilation, data investigation, addition criteria, and elimination criteria. The participants in this study were told about the purpose and aim. High trustworthiness was included in qualitative researches. Thy allowed the participants to understand that the purpose of doing research.

The ethical considerations were also considered as per the Board of nursing and midwifery. Voluntary contribution in the research was there and the nursing professionals were having free rights to join the project or not. Participants were said to sign the informed consent for assured of their information and participation in the study. The whole procedure of this study was very systematic and supportive. This relates to the truth and credibility of data, therefore, reflected the criterion of the study. The study was done using set criteria and justified the research for the study. Thus grounded theories and practices were included to establish the credibility and engagement of study.

The contributions of both the studies were almost similar based on evidence-based nursing practice. Paper 1 was analyzed by the authors to assess the methods for evidence-based learning in nursing care. The purpose of the study was to reflect the most appropriate methods to build and implement educational interventions for enhanced learning. The authors I this study presented that the evidence-based research and problem-solving approach improves the quality of service delivery by lowering the costs in the healthcare sector. Moreover, high academic level, contribution in evidence-based practice, training workshops, and a positive attitude leads to high quality in the clinical setting. Although the other studies were done and compared the facts of evidence-based practice, this report assessed the influence of two educational techniques for Cardiac intensive Care Unit nurse's skills and dedication to Evidence-based practice execution.

In paper 2, nursing professionals were made aware of the importance of evidence-based practice in different ways. The care for managers were made to understand that how they can translate their educational knowledge into practice. The reflection of a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based nursing in a comprehensive way was done to facilitate quality improvement work. It also contributed in a way to analyze that nursing professionals could act as a facilitator in quality work. The higher education, mentorship, role-modeling, and facilitators are several ways to enhance quality in the healthcare system during practice.

The relativeness of both the studies to each other is to contribute in all the ways for evidence-based practice in healthcare institutions. So that this can lead to good patient experience, clinical experience, and research for effective decision-making. The clinical issues were considered in the research and ethical considerations like informed consent were taken to maintain confidentiality and privacy of information.

Conclusion on Engagement in Professional Nursing

Hence, in both the studies there were many matches and mismatches concerning different points for study. The nursing professionals are the assets of healthcare organizations that give their services for patient welfare. The integration of evidence-based nursing practice should be done for high outcomes inpatient as well as clinical experience in decision-making. The training methods play a significant role in enhancing evidence-based practice in clinical settings. The multimedia method was the best method proven from the study. Now, comes the point of commitment from the nursing professionals to implement this into the system. The studies are then only of the importance if they are done and implemented in the right manner. This will overall help in the reduction of unnecessary costs of patients.
