Health and Illness

Coronavirus has been declared as the pandemic in the world. This work represents the initiatives taken by the Australian Government in context with the five action areas of the Ottawa Charter for health promotion (1986).

1. Building healthy public policy: The Government took some measures to build policies to protect the people of this continent and also for the funding agreements for the public hospitals. The Morrison Government’s new health reform agreement was signed by all the states and territories for having the recorded funding for the next five years of the public hospitals (NSW Government, 2020). In NSW, the funding contribution is estimated to grow substantially to dollar 40.1 billion and the Government has also made other policies. These policies have helped the nation in flattening the curve and each and every infected person is getting the best of medical health care facilities. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPCC) along with Government has build few policies for the protection of people against this virus (Australian Government, 2020). This pandemic situation has led to the development of policies for the people that are helping them through medical facilities, financially and is also addressing the mental health of people in this time of the pandemic.

2. Creating supportive environments: The creation of a supportive environment is very important in this time of pandemic because it keeps the people well aware and safe from this virus. There are many web resources set up by the Government for the mental health of the people, aggression, on the COVID- 19 symptoms and testing and self- isolation. The posters are set up at the workplace and health care facilities for hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment and on the protection and physical distancing. The medical healthcare staff members are taking full precautions and are advising the people on the same and the supporting environment is created at every possible place. The supportive environment is built in the urban and remote areas where working conditions are made that the people are safe and stimulating. The positive benefit to the health of the public is aimed at this supportive environment for their working and living (Australian Government, 2020).

3. Strengthening community actions: The community actions have been strengthened for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people community and this is done through home isolation guidelines and guidance given to them. The community-based health services are also being provided to the people living in communities that include the home visiting services. The communities are empowered and the Government of NSW is taking measures like the establishment of thirty clinical communities of practice (NSW Government, 2020). They are supporting the clinicians to share their preparedness strategies and local solutions. They are identifying and prioritizing the problems and their solutions that demand a statewide response. The rules and guidelines have been formulated in context to healthy working and living for the people of the community so that they can be protected during this time of the pandemic.

4. Developing personal skills: the Government of NSW has enabled people to learn and prepare themselves for coping up with this virus so that they can save their lives and keep themselves safe. This is done through the release of updated advice from the health professionals that guides on keeping hygiene and protecting self from this virus. The health care staff members, students and volunteers are teaching people on using precautions and not stepping outside unless it is necessary (Australian Government, 2020). The guidelines for returning to work with precautions have also been released in association with the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee that recommends managing the vulnerable workers. The adherence to appropriate PPE and precautions is mandatory.

5. Re-orienting health services towards prevention of illness and promotion of health: The changes in the education and training systems have been appreciated by the people. The research sector is working hard on finding the vaccine for coronavirus as a solution for people and they are working under the guidelines so that protection measures are taken. The health care facilities are promoting the use of PPE and maintenance of hygiene because they want to promote the well- being of individuals (NSW Government, 2020). The home isolation guidelines in NSW have been regulated by the Government and the service providers are keeping well with these guidelines. The health services have been well re-oriented at this time of pandemic and are responsibly expanding the services for the people that are to be treated or kept in isolation for the treatment of symptoms of coronavirus.
