Introduction to Moral Competence in Nursing

Working with the ages as a residential nurse involves its own set of rule sand standards that must be followed. The nursing and Midwifery Board standards are made in way that they help in creation of a helpful and constructive environment for the patients. The inclusion of elements that palliative, curative, summative and formative help in making the approach of registered nurses more person centred and evidence based. As a registered nurse one must constantly analyse the situation for the thoughtful development and maintenance of constructive relationships (Doyle, K. et al 2014). This is a job that requires a lot of thinking attention and patience. The registered nurse has to be aware of the duties and responsibilities that go beyond the direct provision of medical care. they are also responsible for the supervision and delegation of all nursing activity that takes place but most importantly- it is the direct relationship with the patient that they must be most dependable for.

As per the Nursing and Midwifery Board Standards a registered nurse is supposed to endeavour towards the maintenance of constructive relationships while ensuring that they are able to provide more than just direct clinical care. This involves attention to details and other nuances that help in creating an impact on the patient’s life. Paying adequate attention to their daily needs and looking after them is a vital part of providing safe, quality nursing.

The most significant aspect of this is providing care when it comes to their health-related decisions with direct supports and adequate resources. As a registered nurse, it is their duty to anticipate the needs of the situation and help their patients. The ability to think critically and the capacity to communicate ethe same are one of the most important standards of the NMBA.

In this particular situation, the evidence suggest that Katie is extremely negligent towards her duty to her patients. It can be seen how she is not even fulfilling the basic standards of being a nurse. Another very important standard of the NMBA is the comprehensive conduction of assessments. The most important standard is of providing a safe, appropriate, quality serving practice that tends to the needs of the patient. There are certain policies, regulations and rules that they must follow in order to ensure the delivery of clinical and non-clinical care. These aspects and duties are mostly within the scope of the registered nurses that have been delegated these duties. From tending to the clean and healthy environment for the elderly patient to being attentive and responsive to their daily needs, all of this constitutes the 6th standard of the NMBA. Katie is clearly not following this standard as can be seen when she is not changing the patient’s bed sheets or emptying the full urine bottles. These are the basic tenets of the standards and they are not being following. This implies that Katie is clearly not working towards building engaging in therapeutic relationships with her patients. A key part of this should be her dedicated work in the direction of improved health outcomes. Neither is she fostering healthy relationships to build on her medical knowledge nor is she providing any direct support (Henderson 2017).

In order to create a positive experience for birth the patients and the medical workers, it is important for the registered nurse to establish a positive, trusting and therapeutic relationship with their patients. Not only will this help them in provision of direct clinical care, but the daily engagement will give the registered nurses a glimpse into the psyche of their patient and help them understand their needs better it is impossible for the medical worker involved to understand the treatment plan and this can only be done id the RN actively interacts and assess the treatment process of the patient. In this situation it will be extremely beneficial for Kati to understand the needs of her patient and the gravity of the situation to create a treatment plan that will be genuinely effective.

Moral Competence in Nursing - Section B

As per the NMBA 2018, there are certain codes of conduct and policies that the nurses must abide by. This is put in place so that these medical professionals’ practice in way that meets the faith that has been place don them by the public. In this situation. After watching a negligent attitude her peers have conveyed the same to their manager. This is not only reasonable but almost necessary because there are certain ethics that are followed at a workplace and here, the patients involved are aged who are at the complete mercy of RN’s and other medical professionals. This unreliable attitude of Katie could end up being extremely detrimental so it is better that her peers were proactive enough to complain beforehand.

In order to enhance the health and well-being of the older patients in residential care, there has to be collaborative effort on behalf of the entire team. So in this situation if one medical worker is not doing their job well, it is their duty to ensure that they do their job and provide the medical care the patient needs. here, it would be delegating the responsibility to someone who is more attentive and responsible to the needs of their patient (Johnstone, M. J. 2015).

The collaboration and evaluation competencies are extremely important when providing medical care. The standards dictate that a situation and learning environment has to be created that ensures the interaction and engagement of all medical professionals involved in way that each of them can learn. In this situation, Katie’s attitude could be disastrous for not just her but also her peers who might get distracted in a situation like this its important that head nurse or the clinical manger be notified of her actions so that they can ensure that the timely and effective delivery of medical care takes place.

Understanding the non-clinical part of the treatment is just important when tending to patients who are elderly as sometimes, they may not be capable of communicating their medical needs and their status of the day. If the medical team notices that one of the nurses is not doing their job in a proper manner and ineffectively administering the medical procedure, this will affect the performance of everyone.

In order to create a treatment that is based on person centred care, the entire team of medical professionals gave to collaborate and understand the work of their peers. Each of the nursing standard dictates and uses delegation, supervision, coordination, consultation and referrals in professional relationships to achieve improved health outcomes. This needs through communication, complete dedication and active participation.

Hence, the reaction of her peers is not just reasonable but also advisable as for the entire team to work in an effective manner the development of a collaborative plan is extremely crucial. And this requires the active participation from all the team members. When it comes to ethics and provision of adequate medical care, the team must act in accordance with the trust that is placed on them as health professionals by the public.

As per the standards and ethic that must be followed by nurses and clinical workers, the work behaviour of Katie is not up to mark. In fact it can have severe repercussions for the health of the patients in aged care. It is necessary for the registered nurses to behave in way that leads to the fostering of not just a therapeutic relationship with the patient but also a collaborative relationship with their team members (Johnstone, M. J. 2015). It is through the creation of such collaborative efforts that adequate and effective medical care can be provided to the patient. In order to meet the trust that is place on medical health professionals, these medical workers must fulfil their duty in a way that leaves no room for error. The presence of patience, compassion and attention is extremely necessary. Along with provision of adequate health support and resources attention to detail when it comes to non-clinical health care is also very important and this requires concentrated collaborative efforts over a period of time.
