Description

At the time of my placement during my final semester, I was working as an assistant nurse at the emergency care unit. There was a patient who was admitted to the hospital, three days ago after facing a severe bike accident. He had undergone leg surgery. My mentor asked me to remove his wound dressing as the doctor will examine his condition. Before removing the wound dressing I washed my hands properly to avoid the possibility of any kind of infection. It was taught by me that before removing the wound dressing of a patient I must wash my hands. In addition, I came to know that before taking care of any patient one must wash his/ her hands properly. However, I noticed that at the time of examining the condition of Mr. Kumar, the doctor did not wash his hands. He directly came to the patient and started to assess his condition. At that moment,I was quite confused by thinking whether I should remind him to wash his hands or not. For a moment I thought that this is my duty to remind him but before I could do so he already finished his assessments.

Feelings

Being an assistant nurse I was quite confused about whether it was right toremind him or not. Even though I was in my final year at that time, I thought that the doctor is much more experienced than me. Moreover, what is good for the patient and what is no is known by the doctor very well. On the other hand, I knew that everyone should wash their hands properly before examining the patients. Later, I discussed with my mentor about this matter and he took me to the doctor and asked him about this matter. At first, he became nervous but then he told me that I just made him remember as he was quite busy with his hectic scheduleand he completely forgot to wash his hands.

Evaluations

That incident was not only challenging for me but also it taught me a good lesson. From that incident, I came to know thatI should place my opinion in any kind of situation. In order to ensure the safety and the well-being of the patients, I should be concerned about washing my hands before providing care to the patients and I should remind everyone about this in case they forget.

Analysis

It is quite an evident fact to state that washing hands is very important in cleansing the hands and also to remove the germs in an effective manner. In addition to this, it is also an important fact to state that nearly 23% to 45% of the people will not suffer from diarrhea or any other such disease if they wash their hands with soap or liquid hand wash in a proper way. It is also an important fact to mention in this report that nearly 16 to 21% of the respiratory disease can be well cured by doing hand wash and that also an effective way. One of the studies revealed the fact that any kind of gastrointestinal disease can be cured by a factor of 29% to 57% and this figure is considered to be good value and that is quite an important aspect to building up a medically healthy environment. As per the statistics is concerned it is very much clear that by doing proper handwashing one out of every three (Dingman, 2020).

Conclusion

The facts that can be well concluded from the above study are as follows: Firstly the importance of the hand washing in the community level and the way it is contributing in order to reduce the number of the disease. Other than this it is also an important fact to state that in-depth and vivid analysis is done on the aspect of the handwashing and there I have mentioned about the real facts that are published by the different medical boards or the organizations and there I have also mentioned about the fact that gastrointestinal disease can be cured by a factor of the 29% to the 57%. In fact, this study also revealed the fact that 23% to 45% of the people will not suffer from diarrhea or any other such disease if they wash their hands with soap or liquid hand wash in a proper way .

Plan of Action

It is quite evident that in the future course I need to develop assertive skills when dealing with colleagues. I fact I will also discuss in detail the fact that what are the means that need to be adopted to inculcate those goals .
