For this study, the various databases were used like PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane. The use of keywords with Boolean operators helped in searching articles like dementia AND decision making, decision making OR dementia patients, decisions in dementia AND dementia patients.

The authors’ purpose for writing this article included the burden on dementia patients that they are unable to make their own decisions in healthcare because of their cognitive and behavioral dysfunctions. The article stated that dementia patients are unable to remember and understand the steps in their treatment so in most cases usually a shared or proxy decision making is generated that enables improved health and positive impacts on patient’s progress. Thus, this article is useful for the research topic of my study, showing that dementia patients should not be included in their decision-making processes. This approach in the nursing profession will result in collective decision making and collaborative care, resulting in better health outcomes in the patient’s track reports and effective care.

This article stated that dementia patients face problems with their psychological abilities like depression, stress, and other issues like cognitive impairments. Thus, this article is useful for the research topic of my study, showing that shared decision-making among the care providers and family members is of great significance in dementia patients. This approach in the nursing profession will result in patient-centered care and the delivery of quality care. Moreover, as the patient itself is incapable of taking decisions on his/her own so shared decision making will generate a positive impact not only on his/her cognitive or psychological functions but also provide improved quality care.

The authors’ purpose of writing included the objective to get insights about the healthcare providers’ perceptions in decision making as a dementia patient itself is incapable of making his own decisions. This article stated that the decision making procedure in dementia cases for treatment and management care plans include exploring the options, making a choice, emotions, and needs of the patients, and many others. These all take a long time so decision making in dementia patients is not by the patients rather than it is by the care providers shred decision making. Thus, this article is useful for the research topic of my study, showing that shared decision-making among the care providers is of great significance in dementia patients. This approach in the nursing profession will result in patient-centered care and the delivery of quality care. Moreover, dementia patients show behavioral dysfunction that prevents them from understanding their care plans and treatments so despite the patient the health professionals should establish shared decision making among themselves or with the family members.
