As per the case study, during the post ICU, rehabilitation phase patient shared their experience that they have received while they were in hospitals as well as in-home recovery. Megan’s comments that, the support she had received from the health professionals was commendable. The communications strategies used by the health professionals enable Megan to be motivated and encouraged (Brooks, Ballinger, Nutbeam, Mander& Adams, 2018). The communications strategies used by the health professional were the verbal and also in the written form. Here, the written communications refer to the information provided to the Meghan's in one of the episodes when she was taken for the ICU follow up visit where she had given a notebook in which all the information related to the doctors is provided so that she can take a view. This helps her to know the doctors and the staff that are going to treat her in the process of medications. Megan was slowly able to gain confidence and walk again. In particular, it was the fun and determined nature of her physiotherapist that appealed to Megan and helped to keep her motivated.
During the recovery period, Meghan has experienced a positive environment due to the support and the help of hospital staff. She never forgets what health professionals had done to help her to recover from critical illness (Intensive care, 2020). In terms of verbal communication, she receives particular attention from the staff. All the staff helped her in doing exercise or in the process of medications. The positive attitude of the staff helped her be motivated and calm. The staff members encourage her by admiring her efforts and her participation in the recovery process.
Compounding factors that enables Meghan to effectively communicate with the staff are the communications strategies adopted by the association (Young et al., 2019). Nurses communicate very effectively with her motivates her in each step of recovery. This will help Meghan to share their thoughts and feelings with the nurses and keep her calm and composed before the medications (Brooks, Manias & Bloomer, 2019). As it is very difficult for the hospitals to give full attention to the one patient but they were able to give proper attention and care to Meghan.
