Recovery Approach to Mental Health - Question 1

Explain the importance of cultural and socio-economic factors in the Recovery process.

The cultural and social-economic factors play a significant role in the recovery process of a patient. The factors such as education, income, condition of employment, social support at and power act as a strength and undermine the health of the individuals and communities.

Considering the factor of working condition, there are various dimensions of work such as job control working condition and demands which have a significant impact on the mental and physical health and the recovery of such bad health of the individual (Barnay, 2015.) These determinants affect the mental health of the patient which consequently lead to a downfall in the health of patient making it tougher for them to recover from illness. Social support is also significant when it comes to the recovery process of the individual as the Ambience and environment has a direct impact on the thought process of the individual resulting into the response to the treatment and care provided by the health care system The significance of the social and cultural factors on the overall recovery of the health of the patient can be understood with an example where the patient is undergoing various financial crisis concerning his employment and the constraints developed to because of low educational degree possessed by him. In this particular situation, where the patient is under psychological stress of having the financial crisis along with the health issue can further deteriorate the health condition of the individual leading to delay in recovery. The various evidence suggests that stress can be a negative factor affecting the health across the lifespan of the individual. Similarly, there are various environmental factors which may generate multi-generational impacts on the health of the patient and lead to a bad impact on the recovery of the patient even with proper care and treatment. The address of the social and cultural factors of health is significant not only for the overall improvement of the health of the patient in recovery but are also related to the reduction of the health disabilities which are rooted in the economic and social disadvantages faced by the individual (Raj Chetty et al., 2014 p1590). If the recovery related to a mental health issue is concerned, the impact of linguistic and cultural diversity across the nation is valued for the purpose of recovery of the health of the individual. The mental health policies of the different government developed in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia even reveals the significance of embracing culture and religion difference among the health care system to deliver and plan responsive Healthcare services with respect to mental health issues for the individual (Minas et al., 2013 p23). The initiative of the government to provide multi-disciplinary needs and more affordable and accessible healthcare system for the Australians which further provide the significance of the socio-economic factors such as income and education in the overall recovery of the patient (Australian Government, 2019). Hence it is conclusive that the significance of culture and socio-economic factors in the recovery process of the consumers is of paramount importance and must be e considered in the recovery process to ensure the wellbeing and fast recovery of the individual.

Recovery Approach to Mental Health - Question 2

Describe the role of the family in supporting a consumer's recovery and the role of the nurse in supporting this process.

The role of the family in helping in the recovery of an individual from any illness even considering the mental health recovery is often undermined. The recovery has been considered as the process which is neither the full restoration of health nor is the symptomologies of chronicity (Duff, 2015 p65). Foster and Isobel (2018) have commented that a family-centred approach for the recovery of the patient is significant as it is the considered that the ease and comfort that can be provided by the family is often not found in the nurses as they are not the person familiar and related to that indicia from a long time. The family has been considered as the source of both the trauma as well as the source of healing in the recovery of a patient of any mental health issue (Bouverie Centre, 2016). The family members can help with the recovery of the patient with the offering of encouragement, promoting help-seeking and offering financial and housing assistance to the person who is in the bad health undergoing treatment for the same (Maybery & Reupert, 2017 p365). Thus, it is evident that the support of the family is required for the recovery process and can even increase the recovery process for the individual as it will provide emotional along with the economic support for the treatment of the consumer in the given healthcare settings.

The recovery of the consumer is not only depending on the treatment and care provided by health care system what is also highly dependent on the support provided by the family as well the nurses in their recovery process. The role of nurses can be understood with the various domains where the responsibility of the nurses is represented in the healthcare setting and the recovery process of the consumer (Oldland et al., 2020 p27). The nurses usually take the responsibility of providing positive interpersonal behaviour and clinical leadership and governance towards the care of the consumers. The interpersonal behaviour and interaction allowed the patient to get familiar with their treatment and care and also develop confidence and trust in the health care setting in which he has been recovering resulting into the expedition of the recovery process of the patient. The nurses even have the competency with the medical and technical facilities to be provided by the health care setting which is a requirement for the recovery of the consumer. Since the responsibility of the nurses is person-centred, the quality of care provided is the directly influencing and having an impact on the recovery process as the confidence and comfort provided by nurses reflect in the whole recovery process of the consumer. With the application of polite and comforting behaviour along with gestures which reflect a positive attitude towards the patient, the nurses can provide such assurance to the consumer concerning the recovery process as the nurses are the individual who is consistently in contact and interaction with the patient in the provided treatment.

Recovery Approach to Mental Health - Question 3

Explain the role of people with a lived experience of mental distress in promoting Recovery.

The individuals who are with lived experience of mental health issue in the past can be a great support for the promotion of recovery for the patients who are struggling with mental health issues in their life (Gillard et al., 2017 p140). It has been provided that the support provided by people who have a lived experience can be more effective in the terms of service satisfaction and symptom reduction when the care is provided by the mental health professionals (Davies, 2014 p112). They can be projected as an established example to those who are suffering from severe mental health issues and their families who are in despair and hopeless situation for the consumer. Interaction and providing an insight of the experience of such individual in the treatment phase and the whole recovery process from their mental illness can help in providing a sense of relief and assurance for the patient as well as the family of the patient. It is also significant that people who had lived and experience the mental health issue and are not recover do not have the same Pa in balance which is commonly found in the service provider user relationship and they can also activate the challenges to the existing part which is promoting the development of the more collaborative, equitable and therapeutic relationship. There are various methods with which such person can promote recovery. One such process is to work with the consumer, who have been expecting such mental health issues are in the recovery process, and interact on daily basis about their own experience and spread positivity and faith towards the treatment and care offered by the healthcare setting. Another such step is the education and awareness provided by those people with the experience of mental illness and recovery. The patient, as well as those who are likely to suffer from such mental health issues, will be influenced and consider the words of this particular person as they can directly relate with their experience and the whole trauma that affected their life and leaves for quite a long time during that recovery process. Having interactions with the person who have lived experience of such mental issues also lead to the enhancement in social confidence and boost the self-esteem to obtain employment for themselves concerning the person who is suffering from the mental health issue in the present (Ahmed et al., 2014 p427). This person can be promoted as the epitome of success breaking all the stereotypes related to mental health issues. There are various barriers which affect the patient recovery as well as the situation of the family in the cases of mental health issues. The typical community barrier includes the barrier of self-care and prevention of victimization of one's health over issues like employment of low socioeconomic status. The in-depth analysis of the experience of these experienced recovered patients will ultimately provide emotional support to such patients who are hesitating in getting treated with their illness or who has been in health care setting but are sceptical about the whole treatment process and the outcome associated with the same.

Recovery Approach to Mental Health - Question 4

Explain the importance of self-care for nurses and how knowledge of the Recovery process can assist in nurses undertaking self-care.

The nurses working in the field of palatal social work are quite familiar with the concept of self-care as it has been privatized because of the best care of the nurses to what their self will ultimately help in providing best care and treatment to the consumers (Mills et al., 2018 p63). Self-care has been broadly defined as a self-initiative behaviour taken by the people who are incorporated in the promotion of good health and general well-being of the other individual. The management of stress among the nurses is a very important aspect for the promotion of health care for the mental health issues widespread in the nation. The self-care strategy will not only allow the nurses to manage and regulate their workload in an efficient manner but will also allow them to assist the other healthcare staff and lead to the promotion of a healthy team in the healthcare setting. There are various strategies which can be followed and will not only allow the nurses to cope up with the stress and workload but will also improve the overall performance of nurses in their respective field. Business strategies can be accessing the support from other Health Care professionals taking a relaxation period in between the workflow to ensure the installation of energy and refreshment within them. The management of various concerning self-care practice for the nurses is very crucial as it can be an effective process to ensure better delivery of care and practices for the mental health issues related to patients. The planning and prioritising of the self-care will lead to self-awareness and promotion and support of work culture and leadership quality in the nurses resulting in having positive emotions and better behaviour and relationship terms with the patients who required such support for their recovery from mental health issues. Having the proper knowledge of the self-care strategies and processes provided for the self-care of nurses will eventually help the nurses in the long term (Ross et al., 2017 p270). These strategies will guide them to help their patients with their recovery proves by having the self-care for themselves. Undoubtedly, the importance of self-care for the nurses should be privatised and highlighted by the healthcare settings as the impact and role of the nurses in providing support to the recovery process of the consumers can neither be rejected nor ignored. The knowledge and awareness concerning the self-care guidelines will help the nurses in their nursing practice to reduce the stress and contribute to job satisfaction along with the prevention of the possibility of various health consequences such as obesity and sleep disturbances which are usually encountered in the working of nursing practice. This is also crucial as the nurses are having the engagement in health promotion and the prevention of disease personally as well as professionally and the nurse leaders are involved in complex healthcare environments which can be described only with the active concern of the self-care and wellness.
