The four laws legislation that we need to be aware of as a leader of an organization are as follows:

  • Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 – It is the national legislation enforced by the Australian government that is focused on enhancing the health and safety conditions of employees and every business organizations operating in Australia must adhere to it strictly, else severe fine or consequences may be applied. Protecting health and enhancing safety at the workplace is a prime concern for leaders to ensure organizational effectiveness.
  • Privacy Act – According to the Privacy Act of 1988, it specifically enforced to protect the privacy of employees and individuals working for a business organization such as their names, address, income, date of birth, medical history, respective bank account details, etc. Breaching of this vital policy can incur a fine of maximum AUD 4,20,000 (Australian Government, 2020).
  • Fair Work Act – Every organization irrespective of its nature and size of business must abide by the law of Fair Work Act 2009 as it helps promote a healthy and fair workplace for every employee working in the organization by providing them with the necessary information and suggestion of work rights and responsibilities effectively (Federal Register of Legislation, 2020). Failure to comply with this act or legislation may result in heavy damage to the business.
  • Fair Trading Act 1989 – The key aim of the act is to improve the consumer welfare by empowering the consumers and fostering effectual competition to enable a fair trading practice between suppliers and consumer effectively (State of Queensland, 2019). Business organizations need to comply with the Fair Trading Act to ensure zero conflict and enhance business effectiveness efficiently (State of Queensland, 2019).
  1. Research and explain any two legislation that would apply to the Australian recruitment policy.
  • Fair Work Act 2009: This act is important legislation that would apply to recruitment policy as ensuring fair work practice is vital for smooth flow of operation. The main objective of this act is providing rights and responsibilities to employees and employers to promote workplace relations (Federal Register of Legislation, 2020). Besides, it also sets out national minimum wage, work-life balance, collective bargaining rights, and special allowances (Federal Register of Legislation, 2020).
  • Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011: Proving a healthy and safe workplace is crucial for organization and recruiters must obey to this act as any type of accident or incident may incur heavy damage to the business. According to this act, it provides a framework to safeguard the health, safety, and wellbeing of every employee working in the workplace such as safe working environment, medical aids, health insurance, protective gadgets and wearables, etc (Federal Register of Legislation, 2018). Compliance to Workplace Health and Safety Act is essential as protecting employees who are the key resources of the company is important and it helps to ensure an increase in productivity and fewer conflicts of trade unions (Federal Register of Legislation, 2018).
