Asylum Seeker Policy

Australia is a leader from many decades in bringing the most vulnerable refugees and supporting them to settle in Australia. This strategy of Australia is even more promising today because it is difficult to seek protection in any country for the refugees. The recent policies have made Australia stop the refugees to come by the boat or plane. The problems faced by the asylum seekers in Australia include the detention by law, where they are detained for years and there is no defined limit for this. Even when they are released in the community, they are forced into destitution and are not given adequate space to live in. they are given temporary visa for protection which means they are to apply every three or five years to claim protection (Refugee council of Australia, 2018).

They are barred from working and face a lot of problems in seeking asylum as per the recent laws. The ones coming from boat and plane are detained for longer periods and wait for their claim. The claim made here is that all the asylum seekers should be granted permanent residency so as to ease their hardships. According to the conversations, 2019 Australia grants the permanent protection visas and housing to the genuine refugees who fulfill the eligibility criteria of United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees along with some other human right treaties.
