When two different phases are brought into intimate contact with each other, it is called single stage equilibrium. After separation, the components are at equilibrium in two phases
V1 AND V2 is vapor
L1 and L2 is liquid
(a) Pvp= 2.72 bar or 2040 mmHg
The Antoine equation is given
‘Pvp’ is in mmHg
‘T’ is in oC
Thus, the reboiler operates at 247 oC
(b) It is given that 73.6 mol% (vapor) of 2.3 dimethyl Butane entering the reboiler is returned to the column.
The molar flow rate of stream is given 600 kmol/hr.
Thus, 441.6 kmol/hr (600×0.736) of 2.3 dimethyl butane entering the reboiler is returned to the column.
2.3 Dimethyl Butane (liquid mole fraction) = 0.260 (given)
Molar flow rate of stream=600 kmol/hr
2.3 Dimethyl Butane=B= 0.260×600 =156 kmol/hr
Reboil ratio=V/B=441.6/156 =2.83
(C) The heat load of reboiler is calculated by the following formula
‘m’ is mass flow rate
‘Cp’ is specific heat capacity
‘∆T’ is temperature difference
‘λ’ is latent heat of vaporization
Therefore, the data required is ‘Cp’ , temperature difference, mass flow rate and ’λ’
