This is a step where the foundation is laid down and goals of the coaching sessions set, it entails analyzation, collection and interpretation of performance data by the coach, the coach also provides a framework of what the coaching will be expected to have.


The coach clearly shows the coachee what is expected of him or her, for an effective demonstration all the coachees are expected to pay attention to the coach as he demonstrates to them. This is where the verbal dialogue or the explanations is translated into actions.


This is the process where the coach recalls the past events and the instructions that were given to the coachee, it involves the coach identify the errors of the trainee, questions about what does success in trainee looks like, expectations and the things that the trainee has done well is all are discussed.

Listening to the trainee explanation

Involves active listening of the trainer to the views of the trainee and then share and clarify anything that was not understood.

Observing and evaluating trainees demonstration

The trainee is asked to display what he or she has been taught and the trainer asses his work and see whether he or she has adhered to instructions.

Providing feedback

Involves the process of giving the trainee information about their abilities, skills and behaviors so that they can be aware of the effects of their behaviors to others.
