Compassion is one of the drivers that enables nurses to provide efficient health care services to patients regardless of the situation they are facing. Compassionate is virtue that is also enhanced by religion practices including the Buddhism where by these practices encourages followers to show empathy in any situation where they comes across an individual in need. Many health centers put keen consideration on the act of compassion due to increase of poor care services reports that have shown many centers do not consider it as a first priority. Compassion is considered as the first treatment to the patient and a point where treatment starts.

Various strategies have been enhanced to ensure that patient and the family receives the required care from the nurses. This includes introduction of curriculum that has compassionate education on it. Through this nurses are able to show empathy to the sick skillfully regardless of the reluctance that is experienced from some patient’s ignorance practices. Also, through religious teaching that encourages believers to show care to the people in need has contributed to delivering of efficient services to the sick. A research was carried where by patients were questioned on the type of care they received from various health center. Results showed that many of the health centers took keen considerations of ensuring that the patient situation was given the first priority and they were served on the manner that pleased them (Roberts, & Machon, 2015).

Patients suffering from fatal diseases like cancer require keen observation because the sickness is linked to some fatal conditions that patients cannot take the responsibility of their health on their own and so they requires a person to keep checking on them. It becomes the responsible of the nurses to ensure that the patient is in good condition. In earlier days, a compassionate act was not considered like it is now. One of the factors that have contributed to this is the public have been aware of the services they are entitled in case they attend hospital and various constitution across the world has given its citizen right to report any action that does not bid with the law (Roberts, & Machon, 2015).

In some time back I had visited a friend who was admitted in hospital suffering from cancer. He was in a critical situation in such that sometimes he could not feed himself he needed someone to support him. The nurses who were attending him had committed themselves on ensuring that he was on the right condition. One day I offered a visit to go and check on him as it was my routine after classes. When I got there is found the guy had not taken meal that afternoon. He looked very vulnerable that day and he could not talk as we used to have conversations when I got there (Roberts, & Machon, 2015).

 I was very concerned because the situation he was in was very shocking and remembering the disease he is suffering from my head really sinned. I didn’t know who noticed our commotion and a nurse came the room and stared me like if I have committed a crime. I explained to her that the guy is not eating and she got engaged on the she explained to the guy the reason he was supposed to take the meal and the guy definitely accepted. When she got out the room she smiled at me and murmured to me to not be forcing things. I later came to learn that the guy had much trust on the nurse and he could accept any request from her due to compassion she had towards him (Roberts, & Machon, 2015).

From the study of the body language between the two, I realized that the two had great bond that joined them. This is as a result of the compassion act that was offered by the nurse towards the patients. There are two different types of compassion that are present in nursing field; professional compassion and natural compassion. Natural compassion is the care that comes to an individual automatically when he or she comes across an individual suffering. Professional compassion is achieved after going through a specific learning. In nursing curriculum, students undergo a specific training that enables them acquire skills of caring the sick.

There are various strategies that nurses uses to build a good relationship with the patient. This starts by ensuring they are in good terms between the two. This promotes understanding between the nurses and patients and thus making the cooperation much effective. This cooperation helps in ensuring that the required measures that are supposed to be undertaken as followed appropriately to enhance proper medication is adhered. Patient are able to understand that it is there responsibility to take care of themselves without supervision of a nurse (Roberts, & Machon, 2015).

Another factor that contribute effective compassion is the passion and altitude towards the job. In some instances, there are patients who doesn’t follow the guidelines that are given to them and they does not take responsibility of their sicknesses. This may affects nurses whereby there motivation in work may be drained and loose interest in their job. In a case like this there are certain individual characteristics that one can apply to cope in such situation. Love for your job is one of the attribute that determines how you are able to cope with hard situations that you may come across in your job (Trzeciak, Mazzarelli, & Booker, 2019).

Another thing that boosts nursing motivation is studying and acknowledging the type of sickness that the patient is suffering from. Some illness affects the behaviors of an individual and in some instances the individual may not adhere to the regulation that are given. Through acknowledging of the contributing factors that may cause the change in behavior of the patient, the nurse will be able to come up with effective manipulation strategies that will enable them handle them appropriately (Trzeciak, Mazzarelli, & Booker, 2019).

Compassion plays a major role in the treatment process by ensuring that patients are in a comfortable situation during the recovery process. This enables them manage anxiety that is caused by the worry of the situation they are in.
