Statement of Purpose

Whilst weighing my options of pursuing higher studies; my academic inclination often conflicted with my aptitude that I have developed throughout 12 years of rigorous work experience in the IT domain. Eventually, my training and natural affliction towards the discipline of Finance has prevailed as I am naturally drawn towards the financial routes. I would venture to say that while working on various payments and finance related modules during my stint at globally-acclaimed organizations; I have acquired valuable insights into esoteric financial concepts which exerted influence and formed the rationale to complete a certification in Quantitative Finance before treading towards acquiring a higher degree in the domain.

The exhaustive curriculum of my chosen certification program will further widen my horizon of knowledge in financial concepts and favorably push me towards learning consequential subject-matters, namely; Risk Management, Portfolio Management, Financial Systems, and Corporate Finance. This will significantly aid me to make further leaps of advancements in my career and to achieve my niche in life; that is to be a phenomenal Quantitative Analyst. Hence, I solicit the admission committee of The London School of Economics and Political Science to accord me a slot in the two years MSC Finance (Part-Time) program and help me realize my immediate vocational goals.

I toiled hard and with diligence to achieve considerable success during my time in academia and immediately after concluding my bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics with distinction, I signed my first contract with 3i-Infotech Limited, India as a Software Engineer. Being a novice to corporate culture, I leveraged my intellect and diligence to gain hands-on experience in a series of technologies viz. JAVA, Hibernate, MY SQL Server, RedHat Linux, among others. I strived to contribute to developing user interface screens and server-side components for a project called Kastle Core Banking. After having almost a year of experience, I joined Oracle Corporation, India as a Sr. Software Engineer. At Oracle, my work demanded me to develop and implement an entire execution module in core Java abreast of designing User Interface using JSP servlets. A turning point came into my life when I received an employment offer from Evolution Gaming, London, and began working on a project named Evolve CAS as a Java Developer. Moving abroad and starting over in a new country pushed myself out of my comfort zone and helped me develop a different point of view while making me au fait with international corporate culture. I have been progressively engaged in developing financial reports module in core JAVA and JSP for the Evolve CAS project.

The IT enablement in Finacial processes has kept me engrossed with the concept and it was a self-achievement of sorts when I received an offer letter from revered JP Morgan Chase, London; to hold the position of Senior Java Developer. This was a clear credit and a proof of calibre and that I was continuously progressing with my vocational skillset. Working with JP Morgan Chase; one of the top-notch multinational financial service firms, I am involved in defining business entities using EJB3 and spearheading a team from the UK as well as from India. I have equipped myself with an array of cutting-edge technologies along with an idiosyncratic ability to teach and mentor teams.

While moving forward in my professional journey, I worked for the Department of Work and Pension, U.K, as a Senior Java Developer for the tenure of almost one and a half year then switched to Dovetail Services in a quest to work in interdisciplinary domains. With Dovetail, I contributed to a project named Digital Logbook. I have also been associated with JD Williams and Transport at Greater Manchester, Britain as a Lead Java Developer.

Subsequently, once again finance ploughed into my life when I got on board as a Senior Java Developer at TD Direct Investing (Toronto Dominion Bank), Manchester, U.K; here I exploited my technical skills to work on a Web Broker project and made conscious efforts in devising payment modules in Python which necessitated me to delve deeper into the certain financial concepts. Slowly but surely, my tryst with Finance started getting a definitive shape and my endeavours paid off when upon recognizing my proclivity for financial routes, my peers & seniors complimented my work and encouraged me to pursue a higher degree in finance. Thereafter, I worked with Bank of America – MBNA, Chester, UK, and HSBC Commercial Banking, London, UK on the profiles of Sr. Software Consultant and SIL Lead respectively, and further enumerated technical skills to my portfolio.

Currently, I’m working at DEFRA, Crewe, U.K, as a Senior Software Consultant, and formerly I was associated with Booking.com, Manchester, UK. Working in divergent domains for the past twelve years, I have accumulated valuable technical experience and more importantly about how to deliver results as per the client’s requirements.

At this juncture in my career, with acquired analytical skills and apt exposure in the field of IT as well as Finance, I am looking forward to restarting my academic journey by pursuing a Master’s degree in Finance. The major learning objectives that I aspire to gain from this will be an expert know-how and an analytical viewpoint about Mergers and Acquisitions, Trading and Sales Desk, Public Issue Management and Underwriting in Primary Financial Markets. The unique structure of the Finance (Part-Time) program of The London School of Economics and Political Science which is tailor-made for working professionals will allow me to have a thorough revision of Quantitative Mathematics, Statistics, and Accounting while imparting a great deal of knowledge in disciplines viz. Corporate Finance, Asset Markets, Financial Systems, Risk Management, Portfolio Management, and sundry others.

Additionally, a rigorous and engaging classroom experience will not only impart knowledge of financial risk analytics tools and techniques but also provide me with an opportunity to cement it through practical applications. Being in the vicinity of London, the leading hub for finance and home to several Investment Banks, Private Equity Firms, and Consulting Groups, I will benefit from the bright minds sharing my enthusiasm for business and finance, surrounding me and inspiring me in my journey.

Since the master’s study is a significant step for my professional career, I can not afford to make a compromise on the quality of my education. The London School of Economics and Political Science is one of the few places that are renowned for providing forwardly education and has been dispensing its phenomenal finance-related programs for the past 125 years, thus making it an obvious choice for me to pursue my master’s degree. The university portal showcases that the program is rigorous, demanding, and comprehensive which is exactly what I need to bolster my profile and equip myself for real avenues.

After completing the course, my immediate goal would be to work as a Quantitative Analyst with one of the reputed financial institution, Bank or a Private Equity Firm in the UK or with UK Regulators to comprehend how these financial markets and its instruments have transformed the United Kingdom into one of the strongest financial superpowers of the world. In the long run, I envision myself bringing my professional skills and values to my homeland and establishing my consulting setup. I look forward to being an entrepreneur and provide capital restructuring for upcoming business ideas, and also for businesses looking for expansion through a route of Private Equity and Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB's) through my start-up venture. In parallel, I would also aim at setting up a Non-Banking Finance Company which would focus in areas of Micro-finance targeting youth population as approximately 65% of the total population of India is below the age of 35.

Apart from contributing intellectually, I will also add on to the cultural diversity of the program by bringing my unique perspective which I have inculcated throughout my journey from India to the United Kingdom. Thus, I sincerely look forward to being an integral part of The London School of Economics and Political Science.
