This essay will critically contribute to teamwork and leadership while working in a group’s presentation (Carter, Ro & Alcott et al., 2016).
Leaders play an effective role in raising awareness and affecting the change that is needed during a group presentation. Group work was challenging for me in my college. Though, I learned many things and felt the importance of group learning in my study period. It was a productive period because everyone in the group was assigned with respective tasks that we have to complete timely. Some errors were made by us during the presentation as the same points were shared by two of us (Cha, Kim & Lee et al., 2015). According to my personal opinion, I did very well by presenting my opinion on the most crucial facts. In my presentation, my public speaking part got improved much than last semester. Some of the times, I forgot about what I was really about to say but handled anyhow. This happened with me because I not comfortable I public speaking due to a lack of confidence. Overall, our group presentation was very good, and we got appreciated by our faculty members.
I and my partners were able to produce effective information because we worked in collaboration. We were assigned individual tasks in a group by our team members and we started doing brainstorming to gather ideas (Chin, 2015). This was a good and collaborative effort that produced good results. After having a good speech and facts we were not sure that we will be able to deliver a quality speech, covering all the facts and ideas. Several redundancy errors happened in our project as we did not practice the written speech. There was a delay from members in giving speeches while the mic was shifted from one student to another. Soon the presentation ended my whole group came to know that we did a mistake. Overall, the content was very good for our speech, but a few mistakes were done because we did not review the content. We said our classmates that practice is very important and will give you an overview that the content that is written will be presented in this manner. Moreover, errors will be minimized up to a great extent (Chuang, Jackson & Jiang, 2016).
My strengths and weakness in group presentations were learnings for me. The research I did and the presentation of facts added weightage to the presentation. I found that in some of the points I casually said the related things and that lost interest of the public, it means that these should not be added to the presentation. I was very fast during the presentation but, that I should not because some points get missed.
Hence, the group presentation was a very interactive and good chance of learning. I felt that group work is really good as it helps to sharpen and develop skills in an individual. Teaching plans must include group work activities as they realize the person’s strengths and weaknesses (Chuang, et al., 2016).
Leadership is the quality that is followed by an individual to lead the other individuals by encompassing qualities for the development of self and others. Leadership has involved the points that involve traits, power, vision, mission, charisma, and intelligence, among others. The situational interaction allows the involvement of members interactively to gather valuable points for performance (Chuang, et al., 2016).
My leader in group presentation followed a democratic style of leadership in which everyone was given equal opportunity to present our ideas during brainstorming. The free discussion was held and that encouraged equal participation of members. The group equality was focused and there was a flow of ideas under the control and guidance of the leader. I found that this is the most effective style of leadership as it leads to better contributions of members, higher productivity, and increased group morale (Musinguzi, Namale & Rutebemberwa et al., 2018). On the primary basis, I felt that ideas and opinions were encouraged to retain shared decision making. All group members were encouraged in this group and our leader rewarded and encouraged while we were presenting our ideas. The specific traits were included such as competence, trust, honesty, fairness, creativity, and courage. Our team leader was very sincere, and he took decisions based on morals and values.
According to my opinion, this was the perfect method opted by my leader to encourage thought sharing and following a democratic leadership style to solve the problems creatively (Husebø & Akerjordet, 2016). All the group members were involved and committed to caring about the results of the presentation. Hence, this leadership style is the best style to have participation and encouragement of all members. I will follow all the characteristics similar to my leader to have effective results. I will take care of the point where our team lagged. Based on the Bolman Deal Wizadinventory tool of assessment I found that I am a logical person and people say I am like a judge. Ideally, this is a very important characteristic of leadership to take actions based on logic. I am best fitted to the career of politics because that involves equal participation of all members and I like the most (Musinguzi, et al., 2018). My strongest skill is analytics and I spend most of the free time managing finances. This automatically reflects the results I got from the analysis is that I should be looked at as an inspirational leader and thus lead to good decision making (Chuang, Jackson & Jiang, 2016).
The essay describes the role of teamwork and leadership in the group by presenting the positive and negative points both. I am a democratic leader that I found from analysis and its characteristics are that they give equal chances to everyone in presenting views.
