The bipartite nature of the world constantly baffles me. I found it profoundly astonishing that whilst each one of us is cocooning inside our virtual worlds powered by World Wide Web or utterly reliant on digital communication for our social and commercial fulfilment; a very few of us understand the secret behind the invisible magic of radio systems, frequencies and data waves. Since teen years, I faced a constant thwart when seeking answers about how wireless communication works and made a pact with my engineer self to comprehend the world of Telecommunication through quality education and self-discipline.
Being in the midst of my academic quest at the University of Sydney, I am fulfilling that promise which started with my post-school studies with a Bachelors of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Covenant University. Soon after I concluded my Masters in Information and Communication Engineering from Leicester College and currently I am in the final leg of completing my double Master’s from the University of Sydney as a fellow of Masters of Engineering in Telecommunications.
My rationale to apply for the Graduate Diploma of Engineering at ECA College, Sydney stems from my craving for knowledge and owing to the further learning pathways it will open for me. I am confident that through my letter of purpose, you will coincide with my suitability to uptake the course; post which I am very keen to get enrolled into Masters of Business and Project Management: to balance out my scientific prudence with the commercial viability of the technology.
Through my collected learning derived from a double Master’s program and working with some progressive engineering firms, I have always aimed to develop an astute understanding of a wide range of esoteric concepts in Electrical and Electronic Communication domain. I strongly feel that my expansive academic knowledge in both Electrical Engineering and Telecommunication technologies will be most enhanced when compatible with business skills.
Therefore I am soliciting my enrollment in the Graduate Engineering Diploma course which is going to be an ideal step forward, towards up taking a Masters in Project Management and in realizing my learning and vocational objectives of driving large scale, inter-continental Telecom Projects.
Born to lettered parents, I and my two siblings were raised with ethics and with the awareness about how academic and self-discipline shapes one’s life. Both my parents are well established Chartered Accountants in Nigeria and also my biggest source of inspiration and motivation. My brother and sister too, are very successful and learned in their own right as Mechanical Engineer and Doctor respectively.
Synopsis of Academia
I completed my schooling from Faith Academy, Nigeria in 2011 with Non-Medical Sciences as my majors in Higher and Higher Secondary classes and further enrolled into the Bachelors of Engineering. I opted to specialize in Electricals and Electronics Engineering at Covenant University, Nigeria. I cherished the four years of my bachelor’s program where at the onset we were introduced to the rudimentary fundamentals of circuit theories and electrical instrumentation and later studied advanced power electronics and about high voltage engineering. If anything, my bachelors cleared up a big chunk of the smokescreen over the questions that were always on my mind and I concluded the program with much-desired success, scoring an aggregate of 3.4 out of 5 CGPA.
I was privileged to intern at Midwestern Oil and Gas, Nigeria in the last year of my bachelor studies and during six months spent there, I assisted with the coding process of upgrading automated systems, troubleshooting and instrument maintenance but most importantly enjoyed to be able to first hand operate the equipment that I have studied so diligently about.
The undergraduate program also aided me in choosing my further specialization in the field of Information and Communication Engineering and I joined the University of Leicester for MSc in the same domain. Between 2016 and 18, I was able to comprehend complex knowhow about Embedded C, MATLAB and CAD, in which now I am fairly proficient. I studied hard to absorb the latest cutting innovation in High reliability Embedded Systems, Discreet Communication and scalable Digital Communication technologies and read numerous related literature involving past and current research reports.
Through MSc in Information and Telecommunication, my most prominent learning came from studying C Programming, Embedded C and MATLAB and I completed various projects using these technologies. I successfully developed a ‘Password Lock System’ using LPCXpresso, LPC1679 architecture on embedded C Language, which was well received by my peers and faculty alike.
With prolonged academic life, I developed a colossal interest in Wireless Engineering and Mobile Networks. To acquire specialist knowledge in the field, I opted to join the Master Program in Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Sydney in 2018; right after completing my MSc. from the University of Leicester.
At USYD, it has been an enlightening journey thus far. The college infrastructure and faculty are exemplary and I have learnt much from my culturally diverse peer community. Though now I am nearing the end of my Masters here with one more semester left, my study approach has been more of a research and innovation-based.
I stand today, after a good part of a decade being devoted to studying Electrical, Telecommunication and Wireless System Technologies. I feel a sense of pride with my proficiency in deciphering and developing Computer Literature, Advanced Embedded Systems and particularly enjoy my adeptness in creating technical drawings of both electrical instrumentation, devices and of complex wireless systems. With my double master’s, I have been able to polish my skills of developing automation in communication technologies and packet transfer protocols under a strict purview of secure and latest wireless protocols that are prevalent and globally accepted today.
With my Masters in Telecommunication, I have been able to delve into the working knowledge of Satellite Communication Systems, Optical and Mobile Networks; both at advanced levels. I have learned profusely about Antenna and Wave Propagation technologies. Again, my dexterity with technical diagrams has enabled me to develop unique Electrical and Optical Sensor designs which I worked hard to study during my second semester here.
Purpose of the Study
The most important learning I want to take away from my Graduate Diploma Program is to unlearn a bit and to infuse a commercial perspective to my technical knowhow. As engineers, we take the utmost pride in building our prototypes and will defend their validity to our last breath but it takes accurate trade acumen to decide about its commercial feasibility.
My primary learning objective while applying for the Graduate Diploma of Engineering at the esteemed ECA College is to refresh my knowledge about integrated Engineering technologies and accrue work-ready skills for their effective implementation. Thus I was most delighted when I reviewed the study modules of the diploma and am particularly excited to learn about Work Place Policy and Procedures for Environmental Sustainability.
A bigger incentive in pursuing this diploma course is that it is a pathway to further study the Master of Business and Project Management. In my opinion, my specialization in the latest Information and Telecommunication technologies coupled with formal education in trade fundamentals and advanced project management studies will place me uniquely on the knowledge curve and in the career market. I seek to acquire this unique combination of skills that very few people can claim in my line of work.
I have completed my due diligence while researching for similar courses and am very content with my choice of course and of the College as the syllabus here fully aligns with my desired learning outcomes and due to the formidable reputation of ECA College, Sydney of being a premier educational institution.
I vehemently seek to exploit the expertise of the well-known faculty here and most certain of active collaboration with my peers because of the distinctive knowledge base I will bring.
English has been my primary medium language of education since my elementary school and I have proven language competence; both written and oral, which has been further optimized during my Bachelor and Master programs while writing academic essays, literature reviews and through research projects.
I have appeared for my IELTS Exam on (mention date) and have scored an average of (mention score) band. This is well within the desired range of language adeptness as per the requirements of the College and the Immigration Department’s guidelines.
I have carefully evaluated the expenses in terms of my tuition fees and staying expenses while completing my Graduate Diploma. My mother is my primary sponsor and a well-established professional earning over
I hope to have put forth my application in an articulate manner and am most willing to address any further concerns that you may have regarding my candidature. For the last four years, while studying in foreign countries, I have constantly displayed good scholarly conduct and while at ECA College too, I am committed to pursuing my studies with earnest intent. I am positive to add value to the student community with my distinct knowledge skills and responsible demeanour.
