The New South Wales child protection system ensures various services for the children and young people as they are found to be the most vulnerable parts of society. The risks that are included include neglect, emotional, sexual, or physical abuse, and family or domestic violence. This violence impacts the behavior, mental or physical health, learning, and development of the vulnerable people of the society. This NSW child and young people protection act were launched in 1998 (NSW government, 2020). This protection system includes various services such as child protection services, support to adoption, increasing diversion to preservation services, and many others.
It is found that this system results in increased support to adoption but in the case of aboriginal children and the aboriginal community, the difference of culture resulted in the limited success of the services provided by the system. As a result, the situation for Aboriginal children in New South Wales is becoming bad. Adoption or support of guardian to young people can help in preventing the abrupt endings to a young person’s care. This helps in better and improved life of children and young people who are at risk of anxiety, uncertainty, unpredictability, and insecurity about their future and their care (NSW government, 2020).
It is found that the people who had intellectual disabilities have faced new experiences of happiness in their lives due to the child protection authorities such as the capability to start a new family, form new relationships, and many others. However, the parents of such children are judges at very high standards by the child protection authorities than the other normal parents. These interventions ensure that disabled children or young people will receive fair and equal care or love without discrimination and there will be appropriate support to them with parenting (McConnell, 2010). As per the system, the authorities ensure the hygiene, environment, lifestyle, and nature of the family many times to ensure fair services for care, love, and protection.
In Australia, the USA, and Canada, the child protection system had spread its network widely that recognize and report various child abuse concerns and other sections of society such as single-parent households, minority ethnic groups, poor individuals, and many others. This act ensures that the supervision is regular, with limits to confidentiality, ensures no compulsion, and check for negotiation. The legislation is also found to guard the rights, well-being, security, and safety of the child (Frank, 2012). However, the children or young people have legal rights but the parents are found to have no legal rights. As long as the parents ensure the safety, care, love, and security of the child they can exercise their rights on the child (Healy, 2010).
It is concluded that the NSW child protection system ensures delivery of various services such as guardianism, adoption, and support to the vulnerable group of the society in Australia who are children and young people. They suffer from various concerns of safety, loss of care, love, and poor development. However, with this system, the services ensure that they get the chance to start a family, receive care, love, and form relationships. The authorities perform interventions to ensure that care and security is not compromised. They check the environment and lifestyle of the family and ensure that the well-being and safety of the child are maintained.
