Nutrition in Adulthood - Question 1

The Measurement of body fat using anthropometric measurements is the proven approach for measuring the relationship between hypertension and body fat. The details of the patient are given as she has

Height: 173 cm

Weight: 76 Kg

Waist circumference: 89 cm

The Waist circumference would be: 35.039 inches and the normal range are less than 35 inches.

BMI: Height: 5 feet 8 inches, weight: 167.55 pounds = 25.5 BMI. The normal BMI lies between 18.5 – 24.9.

Hence, Rose is at the risk of hypertension as the BMI and waist circumference both are slightly high than normal (Soltani, Shirani, Chitsazi et al., 2016).

Nutrition in Adulthood - Question 2

Rose is at the risk of hypertension based on the results calculated from BMI and Waist circumference. The strategies that she should adopt for dietary management are:

  1. Reducing sodium intake
  2. Limiting alcohol consumption
  3. Increasing potassium intake
  4. A dietary pattern such as DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension Diet) (Storniolo, Casillas, Bulló, et al., 2017).

Nutrition in Adulthood - Question 3

Rose consumes a diet that is high in sodium like salted peanuts and date slice. She also consumes alcohol as 2 glasses of red wine. At present, she is at the early stages to develop hypertension. She must take appropriate steps to control on diet and lifestyle changes (Paula, Viana, Neto, et al., 2015)
