In this present era, the internet offers various ways to express an emotion of a person. This then is the product of people expressing themselves through the internet without the knowledge of the rights and the consequences, if seen fit. In order to ensure the people are saved from these consequences certain precautionary steps such as reading up the law on expression in a country , the pros and cons and more.

Case Study

Freedom of expression is the right to express one’s emotion without the interference and to provide and seek and impart any ideas through any form of media. This is where one expresses its idea through any form of communication without genuinely harming other individuals or leading them to wrong information that may affect people around the world. 

In Australia, they enjoy an affordable source of the internet. All Australians are permitted to access political and social information. However, the Australian law does not have and filtering or blocking of any blogs, chat rooms or websites and any file sharing access. Australians are allowed to access all information and allowed to express their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with both the government and politicians but, there are systems to regulate the content and some restrictions to what can be viewed on the internet. These are regulated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, ACMA. Among the regulated content are pornography, material containing drugs, violent and any act of terrorism. Another regulated content is the ratings of R 18+ and MA 15+. These are to show the relevant ages to enter any website appropriate to the age.

On the other hand, China has different laws regulation towards the freedom of expression on the internet. Unlike Australia, China’s internet resource is limited to the extent that every piece of information generated from an IP address is regulated. This has even gone to the limit that social media platforms are slowly being restricted. Due to this China has the most restriction to the internet as in 8 out of 10, 10 being completely restricted. With this china has become a world of it’s on with the only valued media is the press and news on television.

With regards to the above matter, one main interaction that contributes to this is the internet. With its fast up-coming status, the internet is known to connect people all over the world leading them to access of every piece of information regarding almost everything and anything that catches their interest. What makes this more interesting is that social media has made full use of the internet in expression. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Blogs are all a form of expression of and individual. These platforms allow individual to voice out their expression with or without knowing the law governing it in its respectful countries.

In recommendations, From the pros view, peoples have the right to have their opinions heard and considered which guarantees all opinions are taken into account. It allows us to study and know the opinions which are minority based and majority based. Also, a pro towards the government by helping them and stating points on making a better country or fighting the government for the better of the county. The cons are basically the contrast of pros such as offensive views are considered, allows minorities to be marginalized, it can encourage racism, lead to wars and murder which are uncalled for and let’s people say bad views and be unpunished. In my opinion freedom of expression should be regulated and modulated not by regions of countries but the whole world. Yes, there will be conflicts which will arise upon this but it must be dealt. I feel that freedom of expression on the internet is the right way of expressing one’s feelings. Certain countries have different laws regarding the freedom of expression, each coming with its rights and consequences

In conclusion, freedom of expression is a term to describe how one feels upon a certain topic or interest. In general, freedom of expression on the internet should be contained and modulated in order to keep not only the person expressing it but the person on the receiving end to clash horns.
