Justice and Change in A Global World

The Catholic Social Teaching is majorly based on one of its most important principle of the common good. The common good focuses on making people realize the aspirations of freedom, autonomy and self- government by the collective actions of all the individuals in a community. It aims at providing benefit to all through their active participation as individuals and not as atomized customers. It makes the availability of the facilities that may be materialistic, cultural and institutional for all the members of a community to fulfil an obligation that is the common interest of all.

During this time of pandemic of coronavirus, the realization of aspiration of common good holds paramount importance because this process of human fulfilment that is attained in common is important to fight the battle against coronavirus disease.

Health is a common good and the bottom line is at every individual at the global level is at risk. Some people are at higher risk of getting infected with this virus such as elderly people or others who have comorbidities like hypertension and diabetes but the major point of worry is if the health care system collapse (van Bavel et al., 2020).

As per the principles of the common good, it is mandatory to share equal resources to each individual at the national level because this pandemic does not distinguish the people as per their caste, religion, race and profession. This disease is common for all and similarly, the realization of the aspiration of the common good should be equal by all. The nations are lacking in addressing this coronavirus disease and other diseases at an equal scale. There are many people especially the richer population who can afford the care services that are given to the corona patients at private hospitals whereas the other section of society the poor ones are unable to afford the masks that are most protective equipment for all (Feng et al., 2020). The full participation of all the people in it will make it good and at least will make this time pass soon. The one can only have that life if all have it together. The availability of PPE kits that is important for protecting individuals from coronavirus is important. This pandemic is unequal in many developing countries like India where rich and middle-class people have opted out of the public health services and they are buying private health services (White & Lo, 2020).

Many people argue that this is not the case in developed countries like the USA as they have the equity initiative that works on the principle of the common good. In countries like Cambodia, the most vulnerable communities are the ones with the migrant workers who are returning home. These countries are not working for the common good and most of the benefits are availed by the upper classes of these countries. There is a requirement of curbing the inequality on both the fronts that are not working in compliance with the principles of the common good. The first front is protective measures and the second front is of receiving enough information for the awareness. This is a time of awakening and the inequitable distribution of the resources like a mask, health care services, protective equipment and the knowledge sharing are the major challenges with realizing aspirations of the common good in every professional community, locally and most importantly globally (Gate, 2020).

The global impact of this pandemic due to coronavirus causing disease is significant and the solidarity between the countries around the world does not flourish in response to this pandemic. The government-led planning and the execution under the guidance of public officials may lead to the realisation of common good if all the principles are followed and they work for the benefit of all the people of the world. Many countries like Myanmar are underdeveloped countries that have no enough money or resources to protect its people from getting this disease thus there is a need to work in compliance with the common good and for the flourishment of the bond among the nations so that each member across the world can help each other during this time of the pandemic.
