Definition and Explanation of Common Good

The distributive principles of common good indicate that members of a community have a relational obligation to answer the sectional interests of every people through social facilitates. According to the “common interest” principle, social institutions are assessed from the platform of equal citizenship which ensures equality and opportunity for every people. The current study will conduct a critique of a global issue where the shared responsibilities for common good is not realised and will propose some ways to address these challenges.

Critique About the Global Issue

One of the most concerning and significant problem that are people facing globally is the Covid-19 pandemic. Though people all over the world are aware about the virus, there is a lack of understanding and encouragement to follow the health protocol or guidelines provided by different national and international bodies. The main issue is, in spite of several restrictions and health strategies suggested such as social distancing, wearing mask, sanitizing hands and others, there are several risk takers that are not following the guidance’s which is leading to more and more infection (Sakzewski, 2020). The current study will propose the strategies and methods that will help addressing the challenge in the professional community.

Obeying the protocol and maintaining the same for preventing Coronavirus infection is the most effective way to deal with this pandemic situation. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), people are required to maintain at least 1 meter distance between themselves and others, need to wear masks so that even if they are not showing any symptom, they may be affected and may affect the other people too and frequently sanitising hands for personal safety and safety for others (World Health Organization, 2020). However, there is a casual attitude observed among the people regarding social distancing. As there are no other ways to prevent or cure the infection such as vaccination, it is a responsibility of the common people to maintain social distancing and other primitive measures. It is a shared responsibility of people in the healthcare profession for the common good.

Through the principles of common good everyone in the community is provided dignified and respected environment where they can use their full potential and flourish. However, the risk takers are likely to step out o their home without any emergency and have no regard for rules and regulations and about other people’s lives. Therefore, the study will discuss some measures that can be adopted to address the issue mentioned.

Proposed Ways to Address the Challenge

Healthcare professionals are required to raise the concern locally and globally to prevent the spread of infection and encouraging maintaining the standard protocol of socialising.

Application to the local professional community

• The role of health professionals in physical care of others is to maintain a standard procedure of handling patients with or without confirm case of the virus in a careful manner. In this pandemic situation they are needed to wear PPE suits for reduce their proneness to infection through air and surface. Healthcare professionals are required to check their temperature before entering in to their organisation. On the other hand, while working with community members, it is required to check the temperature before starting any interaction (Zheng et al., 2020). It will serve as a purpose for common good. For instance, a person with high temperature may be infected by the virus. However, checking temperature will help in early detection of the disease leading the professionals to take prompt action towards assessing their health condition so that they do not become the carrier of the virus to other people who are not infected.
• A regular self monitoring practice is needed to be adopted by the health professionals. Even if the symptoms of fever and others are not observable, this regular monitoring process which will help to be under supervision reducing the chances of spreading the infection. Regular virtual meeting can be conducted convey the standard protocol that every health care professionals should maintain. However, the specific changes in the guidelines may be required as per the departmental responsibilities and areas of concern. This self monitoring process is also linked to the common good. As the regularity of assessment will improve it will help preventing the spreading of disease (Zanin & Papo, 2020).
• It is not only the concern of the healthcare professional community to maintain the protocol of safety for and among them; they are connected to different communities in terms of their service field. Engaging the policy makers, nurses and general practitioners, health and community services providers and others from around the globe will help incorporating standard practice inputs along with improved connection with them for taking collaborative preventive measures against the infection (World Health Organization, 2020). On the other hand engaging the community members will help spreading the awareness faster due to their interconnectedness with each other and even every detail can be shared. This will help in collaboration in detecting the disease, assessment of the health condition, faster delivery of services, better collaboration in treatment and better health outcomes. On the other hand, community members are capable of providing different resources that will help in easing out the process of disease prevention.

Application to the Global professional community

• Health care professionals are required to team up for regular investigation about the spreading rate, guideline modifications performed by the World Health Organisation, World Health Assembly and others to compare with their practices to that the gaps in measures taken for mitigating the risk of infection can be upgraded and standardised. Through virtual workshop it can be spread with different levels of the profession without threatening their health during Covid-19 pandemic (Chen et al., 2020). The reason behind adopting virtual means for conducting the workshop is taken under consideration for common good where, generalised practices will help every people in the community to avoid confusion and perform their tasks effectively.
• As the health care professionals are highly vulnerable to be infected as they are working in the forefront. Here, Advocacy will help them to voice their issues or may defend and safeguard their rights so that genuine decisions can be made to address their issues. Therefore, they must advocate for setting adequate time so that they can effectively perform safety tasks first before engaging into their work (Christie, Gunton & Hejnowicz, 2019). They are needed to be provided with autonomy and will ensure that they are getting adequate information and knowledge about the Coronavirus. Therefore, healthcare professionals are also need to communicate effectively with each other so that the standard guidelines may be followed by everyone effectively. Digital technologies may be used for maintaining social distancing as it will promote the common good. Additionally, it will also help in spreading education through the community members as a purpose of common good.
