Organization Structure

The Project is a partnership between the Transurban and Victoria government to be constructed by CPB Contractors and John Holland (ICN Gateway, 2020). The West Gate Tunnel Project is part of Transport Infrastructure Authority at the Department of Transport. The team comprises of professionals from private and public sector. The team operations are headed by Peter Sammut (West Gate Tunnel Project, 2020). The strength of the organization structure is the experience of 30 years and worked on the previous project such as Eastlink toll road and Victoria Desalination Plant (West Gate Tunnel Project, 2020)

The organization structure consists of the Western Distributor Authority, state, and specialist advisor that is the key strength. Transurban is a private operator with the public-private partnership the toll operator can leverage to deliver the project and induce traffic in the west of Melbourne.

Project Initiation Context

The West Gate Tunnel Project is an opportunity to design transportation and in the M1 corridor.

It will widen the freeway to 12 lanes and reduce congestion (Victoria State Department, 2017). The project will decrease travel distance between Melbourne's main city and the cross corridor. The contract commenced on the tunnel project in January 2018 and wit will open in the traffic in 2022 (West Gate Tunnel Project, 2020).

Project Scope- The Tunnel project is part of interrelated projects that includes the Monash Freeway Upgrade and Western Dock project. The project will deliver by the installation of an elevated ramp that will develop a link between the West Gate Freeway, with new open space by approximately 14 km (Victoria State department, 2017).
