A workplace culture is a culture that includes basic ethics and laws that needs to be followed by the employees, managers, the head and the staff. Workers in a professional environment are expected to follow the rules and not hurt someones sentiments. During lunch, after the discussion about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, one of the colleagues moved out of the area because a racist comment was made. This is the rule of every workplace to treat everyone equally and not to hurt anyone by any kind of racist comment. At a workplace, all kinds of people work. It is the duty to respect the colleagues and their sentiments. It is very important to maintain peace at the work for the smooth and effective delivery of work. This kind of behaviour may impact the customers as well. This is because the colleague against whom the comment was made would now be not able to do the work effectively for the day or so. The colleague that made such comment is found to be the one who does not respect others feelings, and is now considered that he must not be respecting the customers also.
The health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is a well-known fact by now. There is an unequal treatment given to such people as compared to non-indigenous Australians. The government have long ago promised for the funds of their health and housing but have not been able to provide much and thus the improvement got hampered. Their progress has been inconsistent and very slow. They are suffering from life threatening diseases because they do not have access to primary health care. The non-indigenous Australians have better access not only to healthcare systems but also to every possible centre where aboriginal people do not have access to all. The non-indigenous Australians should be taught to treat the Aboriginals in the same way as they treat their own members. This inequality gap should end by now and they should be treated equally. It was the past that they were treated badly, now with development, they should be given equal access to everything. It is human right to have equality within a generation.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person who left the conversation because his sentiments were hurt would be brought back and the person who had commented would apologise to him. Everyone at the workplace should promise him to treat him as equally as they treat non-indigenous colleagues. He would be promised that no such comment would be made from now onwards and everyone will support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in getting their rights back. He will now have support from all the colleagues as well. His sentiments will be respected and him as a person would be respected irrespective of him being an Aboriginal individual at the workplace. The organisation will make sure that no such comment will be made by anyone and everyone would be given equality. A workplace culture will be followed by all and no one will ever repeat this mistake.
